They are dishwasher safe and only get better with age!I am new to using piping bags and icing tips. I know this should be a simple thing but exactly how do you gracefully get the newly made frosting into the piping bag. My first 2 attempts had icing all over the counter, me, and the piping bag. I am clearly missing a critical step somewhere. Then when I squeeze the bag, even though I have twisted the back of the bag, I have icing coming out of both ends. I clearly could use an instructional video or instructions with pictures on how to properly fill a piping bag. Thanks!

The star tip is very versatile, making it great for beginning decorators. A simple squeeze of the bag and any sized star tip will produce a cute star-shaped design, perfect for making borders or filling in large areas of your cake.
As the name suggests, this tip is used to pipe buttercream flowers, such as roses and tulips. However, this tip can also be used to pipe lovely ribbons, ruffles and simpler three or five-petal flowers, such as an apple blossom. If you have always wanted to learn how to pipe icing decorations using a bag and tip, you are in the right place. Part 1 of the Piping Tips 101 series will help you get started by introducing you to the most common tip families, including round, star, leaf, drop flower, petal and specialty tips. We will also cover the basics for using tips and decorating bags.

Round tips are a great place to get started. These tips all feature a round opening, making them perfect for piping letters and lines. The smaller sizes are often used for piping lettering, dots or outlining cookies, while the larger sizes can be used to pipe large dot borders, swirls and lines.
Piping tips are nothing if not paired with a piping bag. Depending on your project, there are a few options to choose from when it comes to finding the right decorating bag.If you don’t plan on changing tips, you do not need to use a coupler. Simply drop your tip into the decorating bag and use scissors or a pen to mark a line about 1/2 way up the tip. Cut the bag at the line, then push the tip down through the opening.

What are the sizes of piping tips?
Round – #1s, #1, #2, #3, #4, #5, #6, #7, #8, #10, #12. Star- #199, #14, #16, #17, #18, #20, #21, #22, #32. Specialty – #81. Petal – #59s/59, #61, #97, #101, #102, #103, #104, #150.

Use them to make fun mini cupcakes with the kids or decorate a sweet roll cake in no time.Hi Cyndy! Metal tips can be more fragile than plastic ones because they can be bent out of shape if not handled properly. We recommend hand washing them and storing them where they are not likely to have heavier objects placed on top of them. The grass tip is one of the most popular in this category and can be used to pipe grass and fur, like these Easter Egg Cupcakes or this Fluffy Bunny Cake. The basketweave tip, which has both a flat and serrated side, is great for adding texture to the sides of your cake, like in this Floral Basketweave Cake.

Preparing your bag with a coupler is easy. Check out our guide on How to Use a Coupler to learn more about how to use a coupler with a 12 or 16 in. piping bag. Most decorating tips are made of metal; however, some are also available in plastic. The second part, the ring, is used to secure your tip in place. Drop flower tips looks like a star tip, but the grooves are slightly closed, making it easier to pipe a flower shape. These tips allow you to pipe a flower with just one squeeze, or you can make a swirled flower by simply twisting your wrist as you pipe. However, couplers are needed if you’re planning to use more than one tip with your piping bag. You can also create amazing designs by striping your bag with two or three colors of icing, as seen in these Swirl Drop Flower Cupcakes.

Wilton piping tips are stainless steel and dishwasher safe (on the top rack). After use, wash your tips in warm, soapy water, then rinse and allow to dry completely before storing.

Which tip is bigger 1A or 2A?
2A tube (tip) is a seamless stainless steel nozzle ideal for piping thicker lettering, dots, balls, beads, outlines and lacework. Made of stainless steel, it is slightly smaller than Wilton’s round decorating tube no. 1A.
In fact, our business started when avid baker Rita Brenenstuhl got frustrated that she couldn’t find the supplies she needed to make perfect wedding cakes. The easiest frosting is regular buttercream. Some frostings can clog cake tips, but buttercream typically doesn’t do that. Whether you choose an American buttercream, Italian buttercream or Swiss meringue buttercream is up to you. American buttercream will be sturdier (especially if you use shorting) and hold up better however Italian or Swiss buttercream will give your decorations a lighter texture. A round tip is great to make dots in various sizes. These are made by applying pressure to the top of the bag. More pressure will create a larger circle. If you have a whisp on top of the frosting when you pull away you can smooth it with a slightly wet finger or a little cornstarch on your finger. You can also use a round tip for creating different kinds of borders.I like using a jumbo tip to easily add my homemade frosting (usually buttercream frosting or the Swiss meringue buttercream) to my homemade cakes. I then use an off-set spatula to smooth out the icing.

About this product Pipe perfect little petals for roses, pansies, ruffles, and more with this petal decorating tip. It’s great for fine details and petite flowers. The finely cut ridges create decorations with excellent details. It’s a classic tool for any decorator.
It’s a lot of fun and will take any cake you make (or buy!) to a whole new level. It’s a great way to get lots of oohhs and aahhs from family and friends.First, make sure your cake tip is fitted securely on the end of your piping bag (a coupler helps with this). Hold the pastry bag in one hand (or set it in a glass with the sides of the bag turned out over the top of the glass) and use an off-set spatula to add icing to the bag a little at a time. Fill the bag no more than two-thirds full. Twist the top of the pastry bag closed.

If you’re a beginner, the best tip for decorating the top and sides of a cake is an open star cake tip. It’s easy to use and you can create tidy borders and fun designs.

Use a round tip for writing messages on the top of your cake or on the cake board or cake plate. You may want to practice what you want to write before decorating your cake. Tips: apply even pressure and go slowly. You can also squeeze the top of the bag with your less dominant hand, while using your dominant hand to hold the tip and shape the writing. Now, speaking of piping tips, here are lots of different cake tips that you can choose from, depending on what kind of design you want on your cake. If you’re not sure which one to pick, don’t worry! Everything you need to know, you’ll find below.

About this product. Pipe perfect little petals for roses, pansies, ruffles, and more with this petal decorating tip. It’s great for fine details and petite flowers. The finely cut ridges create decorations with excellent details.
A leaf tip can also create a pretty border. Round tips can create borders, polka dots, swirls, and more. A small round tip is great for writing. With a little practice you can use flower and leaf tips to create pretty floral designs for the tops and sides of your cake.

The easy answer to this is, the type that you want! But if you’re wanting to build your collection the following tip styles are a great place to start.
It depends. A coupler enables you to easily change tips. So if you want to pipe a shell border, add large blue dots on the sides of the cake, and then write “Happy Birthday” on top – all in the same color icing – a coupler makes it easy to use the 3 different tips you’d need. When I first started decorating cakes I didn’t have any supplies at all. Before my first class I bought almost everything mentioned above, and then added to my collection as time went on. The cake turntable and the large frosting bags were a couple things I didn’t buy right away — and once I did buy them I wished I’d gotten them sooner.I like to keep a sheet of parchment next to me so I can test each bag and do a practice run of the design I’m aiming for before I apply it to the cake. That way I can see if there are air bubbles or if I have too much icing in the bag before I start decorating

I’m all about helping you make easy global dishes using everyday ingredients so you can find more joy in the kitchen, thrill family and friends & level up your cooking & baking skills. Beginners welcome!
Use a star or flower tip to make simple shapes and designs. You just need to point the tip down, carefully apply pressure and pull the piping bag up to create the shape. You can give it a little twist for an added effect too. You can also use the star tip to create shell borders and star borders. Tip: add two or even three icing colors to your pastry bag to create a pretty multi-color swirl effect.

You can use any buttercream for this, but it will work best with stiffer ones like American buttercream. Applying this coat you want to keep the frosting thin and as even as possible. Use an off-set spatula for this task.
When you’re just starting out, keep things simple. Use just 1 or 2 colors and 1 or 2 tips – say a star tip to create shell border and a small round tip to write something on the top of the cake. As you become more proficient with using decorating bags and pipping tips, add more complexity.
