What is Adopt a Cop? Let us explain. Our police officers have one of the most dangerous jobs out there. They are the first to respond to danger and often need to put themselves in situations that need them to be calm, and be able control a situation, a person or a group of people. Jiu-jitsu teaches us to be calm in very uncomfortable positions while we are out of breath and tired. It also teaches us to think fast, react and get out of a situation before we get caught in a submission (choke, armbar, etc.). We train our bodies and minds almost in a daily basis resulting in a skill that can be translated into the real world, physically and mentally. A police officer needs to have these skills of the mind and body to be able to handle whatever the situation throws at him or her at any moment, and Jiu-jitsu can give them that.
We are happy to announce that Red River Brazilian Jiu-jitsu is now affiliate with Adopt a Cop Program. This program will pay 100% of any active duty patrolling police officer to train until they receive the rank of blue belt.During deadly combative situations, having a basic understanding of grappling can potentially save the lives of not only the officers but the suspects as well. Being a police officer is one of the most selfless, dangerous, and important jobs in our world today. Investing in our officers is an investment in our communities. To address critical gaps in the department-funded training of front line police officers by partnering with Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu gyms across the country to provide free or reduced rate memberships to police officers. Officers are sponsored until they achieve the rank of blue belt, which typically takes 12-18 months.Police officers often find themselves in volatile situations which can quickly turn deadly. In these combative situations, being the more skilled grappler allows the officer a greater amount of control over the situation, which decreases the likelihood of injury or death for both officer and suspect.
When you join City of Palms Brazilian Jiu Jitsu, you are not just joining a gym, you are joining a community connected through the Jiu Jitsu lifestyle. Our structured curriculum is the foundation of all BQuick Jiu Jitsu schools. Training starts on time daily and we utilize a 2 week training cycle of information for class structure. We believe that the practice of Jiu Jitsu is seen as a means to individual development and personal growth. Strength, self-awareness, confidence, respect, discipline and responsibility are common core values taught within our adult and kid’s programs.Police officers receive minimal instruction or practice in managing physically volatile situations. Often the only training they receive is at the Academy, and a once-per-year defense class. An officer who has the necessary knowledge and skills to effectively control a combative situation will feel more confident in their abilities on the job, and are subsequently less likely to resort to lethal force in fear for their own safety during a volatile interaction. A more highly trained force will result in better outcomes for both officers and suspects.
As a student, you know up front what is expected of you and have a clear understanding of what to expect from your instructors and training partners. The consistency of this structure combined with the in depth knowledge and innovation of our devoted instructors makes for the perfect training environment.Sponsorship is attendance-based and officers must train at least once per week. Officers are expected to ‘check-in’ by posting once weekly to Instagram using the hashtag #adoptacopbjj. An officer is sponsored until they reach the rank of blue belt, which is the second belt in jiu-jitsu and typically takes 12-18 months to earn.
Competitions, team activities, annual camps, seminars and regular classes create a positive environment and an exciting calendar year of activities that you and your loved ones will enjoy being a part of.
Often times police find themselves in combative situations that can turn deadly and during these times being the more skilled grappler can potentially save the lives of not only the officers but the suspects as well.
