The few survivors were forced to flee offworld to survive. After the end of the Mandalorian Wars Cathar began to resettle their world and by the time of the Galactic Civil War, it had fully recovered from the damage the Mandalorians had done. Prior to the planet’s devastation, it was not a member of the Galactic Republic. The 1996 PC game Star Wars: Rebellion mistakenly places this planet in the Abrion sector. Connor Sheridan of GamesRadar described Revan on remake’s trailer as “looking sinister as ever”.
Can a Cathar be a Jedi?
Cathar in the galaxy Force-sensitive Cathar often became Jedi, even though the Jedi way tended to be in opposition to their natural tendencies. Sylvar and her mate Crado were famous Jedi who fought in the Great Sith War.
In the Echoes of Oblivion story, Revan’s spirit returns to aid the player character in defeating the duplicate spirit of the Sith Emperor before he can possess Satele Shan.
Prior to the events of the sequel, Revan bade farewell to the nine comrades who had accompanied him on his quest, knowing that none of them could safely accompany him in the places he had to go to; the only NPC with a certain knowledge of where and why Revan left (his navigation droid, T3-M4) won’t divulge the information. Also, at the ancient tomb of Ludo Kressh in Korriban, the Jedi Exile fights a silent vision of Darth Revan, in which he appears to wield two lightsabers, one red and one violet. The game lists the color crystal of the lightsaber the player obtains from them as a unique red color. This is Revan’s only physical appearance in the entire game. Additionally, the Jedi Exile can speak with several companions and non-player characters within the game to learn more about the history of Revan, and his journey into the Unknown Regions.
Revan is depicted as a former Jedi who, along with his best friend Alek (later Darth Malak), left the Order to lead the fight in the Mandalorian Wars due to the Jedi’s inaction. One year after the end of the Mandalorian Wars, Darth Revan and Malak returned to Republic space at the head of a massive invasion fleet. Calling themselves the Sith, they declared war on the Republic. Since their intention was to unite the galaxy under one ruler so they could attack the ancient Sith Empire, they avoided attacking key places such as Coruscant, Onderon, and Dantooine. The Sith won the battle, but as Revan prepared to duel with the Jedi who boarded his flagship, Malak, in the hopes of destroying both Revan and the Jedi, betrayed his Master, ordering the ships under his command to fire on Revan’s flagship’s bridge. Though Malak believed himself to have been successful in killing Revan, he survived. Revan, severely injured from the turbolaser blasts, was then taken by Bastila Shan and her Jedi strike team to the Jedi Enclave on Dantooine where the Jedi Council members chose to wipe Revan’s memory, and imprint him with a false identity that the player creates at the beginning of the game, choosing the character’s gender and appearance (canonically, Revan is male). In April 2014, as a result of its acquisition by The Walt Disney Company, Lucasfilm rebranded most of the licensed Star Wars novels, comics, and video games produced since the originating 1977 film Star Wars as Star Wars Legends and declared them non-canon to the franchise.
In 2007, Hasbro toys released an action figure of Darth Revan. Revan received the second-highest number of votes in the 2006 ToyFare Fan’s Choice Poll to determine the most requested Star Wars action figure. The highest number of votes was for Quinlan Vos, a Jedi who appeared in comic books and who Hasbro had already slated to be released in 2007 before the poll was conducted.
The visual dictionary guide for the 2019 film Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker contains a reference to one of the Sith Eternal’s legions being named after Darth Revan.
Revan was chosen by IGN as the 12th greatest Star Wars character, as well as also being chosen by IGN’s Jesse Schedeen as, along with Darth Malak, the fifth best Star Wars villain. IGN’s readers chose Revan as their 7th top Star Wars character. UGO Networks put the character as the ninth top Star Wars expanded universe character. Jesse Schedeen listed Revan as one of the Star Wars character that she wanted in Soulcalibur, calling him “one of the rare Expanded Universe characters that unquestionably stands alongside the best of the movie characters.” Robert Workman, from GameDaily, listed the character as one of his favourite Star Wars video game characters. In celebration of KotOR’s 15th anniversary, Electronic Arts added the Jedi Knight variant of Revan to Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes as a playable character on October 18, 2018. Months later, the Sith version, Darth Revan, was included in the game as the first unlockable Dark Side mythic character, followed by Darth Malak. Knights of the Old Republic begins with Revan awaking on a starship under attack. Throughout the game, Revan learns of his forgotten history and assembles a band of followers as he searches for “Star Maps” to lead him back to the Star Forge, which Revan used to make his army. Revan eventually encounters Malak, who reveals his former identity as a Sith Lord. Malak later captures Bastila and turns her to the dark side. Her ultimate fate depends on player’s choice to follow the light side or the dark side throughout the game. Canonically, Revan remains loyal to the light side, defeats Malak, and destroys the Star Forge. The last scene of the game’s canonical ending shows the main characters, including Revan, being honored by the Republic at the site of the temple on Rakata Prime; a picture of later events has emerged from subsequent games and novels.Revan re-emerges in Star Wars: The Old Republic after a team of Republic heroes manages to rescue him from the Emperor’s Maelstrom Prison with the help of the ghost of the Jedi Exile. It is revealed that Revan was kept alive for centuries as a prisoner by the Emperor to channel Revan’s strength in the Force. Revan’s link with the Emperor was two-way, however, and he was able to keep the Emperor’s darker urges in check, thereby preventing the Emperor from unleashing his full power upon the galaxy before the Republic and Jedi Order had grown enough again to be able to stand a chance against the Sith Empire. Though thankful to the Republic for rescuing him, Revan decides to fight the Emperor on his own terms and takes control of a Rakatan installation called “The Foundry” and engineers a droid army (led by HK-47) programmed to identify and eliminate any target with Sith DNA, which not only included Dark Lords of the Sith but also the majority of citizens of the Empire. Revan’s plan is thwarted when a group of Imperials manages to infiltrate the Foundry and destroy the droid army and HK-47 before confronting Revan. After a vicious battle, Revan is defeated but disappears before a killing blow can be delivered.
What species is a Cathar Star Wars?
The Cathar were the lion-people of the Star Wars universe. They had claws and fangs and lived in trees, yet they were still capable of manipulating lightsabers and blaster pistols. Cached
Revan appears again in the “Legacy of Rakata Prime” flashpoint as the mastermind behind the conspiracy in the “Forged Alliances” plotline. He is the primary antagonist of the fourth digital expansion to The Old Republic, entitled Shadow of Revan, in which he returns to destroy the Republic and Empire. He leads a group of followers known as the Order of Revan or “Revanites”, into infiltrating both galactic powers and influencing them into annihilating each other. Some Republic and Imperial forces also declare themselves loyal to Revan. Revan then draws the Empire and Republic into a battle with his Revanite ships over the planet Rishi, so that neither the Republic nor the Empire can interfere when he confronts the Emperor. However, his plan is thwarted when the player character sends a communication to Republic and Imperial ships informing them of Revan’s plan and telling them to cease all fire.A former veteran Jedi knight who lived during the Old Republic Era — approx. 4,000 years before the Skywalker Saga — the Sith Lord Revan forms a Sith Empire to conquer the galaxy, contending with the Republic’s armies, only to be betrayed and left for dead by Darth Malak, and subsequently captured by the Jedi, who erase Revan’s memories and replace them with a false identity, as part of the Jedi’s plan to have Revan rejoin their ranks and help defeat Malak and his Empire. Revan’s true identity isn’t revealed to the player until later in the game, prior to which their custom character lacks any predefined identity and “Darth Revan” is believed to be dead, returning to villainy or remaining a hero depending upon players’ choices and actions.
Revan appears as the primary focus of Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan, a tie-in book to Star Wars: The Old Republic that was released by Bioware and EA on December 20, 2011.
Revan is later cornered on Yavin 4 where he tries to raise the Emperor but is confronted and defeated by the player and an alliance of Republic and Imperial characters. After the Emperor makes his presence known and leaves Yavin 4, an apparition of Revan appears and reveals that when he was defeated in the Foundry, only his light side became one with the Force, while his dark side, fueled by hate for the Emperor, survived, setting off the “Forged Alliances” plotline. The two sides of Revan, one Jedi, the other Sith, then reunite, with his now-whole spirit warning the player and his allies that they must undo what he has done, lest otherwise the Emperor will see his evil plans through and everything will be lost.Revan’s gender, class, and facial appearance are chosen and customised by the player. Rino Romano provides the voice for the male Revan, while Charity James voices the female Revan. Since the player can choose the gender of Revan, much of the dialogue revolving around the character is gender-neutral with only a few exceptions. However, in later Star Wars Legends media, Revan is called “he” regardless of player choice for the gender.Although Revan ultimately did not make the cut, Game Informer staff considered his inclusion in their “30 characters that defined a decade” collection, with Matt Miller saying, “in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, the looming shadow of [Revan’s] presence hangs over everything, and the Revan-centric twist at the heart of the story shocked the gaming world.”Revan’s history is expanded and continued in Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic II: The Sith Lords, as well as related Legends novels and comic books, in particular the 2011 novella Star Wars: The Old Republic: Revan by Drew Karpyshyn, in which it is revealed that both Revan and Malak were captured by the Sith Emperor prior to the first game’s events, and brainwashed into becoming his Sith servants. Although they managed to escape his control, the pair remained loyal to the dark side of the Force and went on to form their own Sith Empire. In the massively multiplayer online game Star Wars: The Old Republic, a corrupted Force ghost “remnant” of Revan serves as the eponymous antagonist of the Shadow of Revan expansion, voiced by Jeff Bennett. Following the release of Knights of the Old Republic, Revan quickly became a fan favorite, and is among the most popular non-film characters in the Star Wars franchise, with the character’s arc meeting with very positive reviews from critics. Although all works depicting the character became part of the non-canonical Star Wars Expanded Universe (known as Star Wars Legends) in 2014, Revan has had a few canonical references in canon media since 2019.Revan won the 2015 Black Series Fan Choice Poll at San Diego Comic-Con, with a Darth Revan (from Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic) figure released in late 2016. Revan was originally slated to appear in the animated series Star Wars: The Clone Wars. In the third-season episode “Ghosts of Mortis,” Revan would have appeared as a Sith Lord alongside Darth Bane as advisors to the Son, a dark side embodiment. Revan was cut from the episode in late production since their presence would conflict with Lucas’ view of the Force at the time. Darth Revan, later known simply as Revan, is the player character of the 2003 role-playing video game Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic and its upcoming remake by BioWare.
The Sith Empire had liberated a Cathar political prisoner and his followers who were covertly imprisoned on Belsavis for twenty years at the behest of the Republic Strategic Information Service. This incident was leaked by Imperial Non-human Relations, which damaged the public trust between the Republic and their alien citizens. After Malgus’ betrayal, the Sith Empire began an alien initiative which saw multiple Cathar clans being freely inducted into the ranks. The planet of Cathar was devastated by the Mandalorians during the Battle of Cathar, leading to the enslavement and near-extinction of the Cathar species. Over 90 percent of the species was killed by the Mandalorians in the battle. The few survivors were forced to flee off-world to survive. After the Mandalorian Wars, Cathar began to resettle their world. By the time of the Galactic Civil War, it had fully recovered from the damage the Mandalorians had done.Force-sensitive Cathar often became Jedi, even though the Jedi way tended to be in opposition to their natural tendencies. Sylvar and her mate Crado were famous Jedi who fought in the Great Sith War. The story of Crado’s fall to the dark side of the Force under the influence of Exar Kun was well-known to all Cathar, as was the story of Sylvar, who was able to turn away from the dark path and regain the Jedi way. Another Cathar Jedi of that era was Juhani, who traveled with Revan and assisted him in the destruction of the Star Forge. Famous Cathar Jedi during the Second Imperial Civil War were brothers Rasi, Ahn and Zho Tuum. The Cathar were a species of feline, bipedal humanoids native to Cathar, a planet of savannas and rough uplands. They were known for their loyalty, passion, and temper. Quick and powerful, they were considered great warriors and dedicated, efficient predators.
On their homeworld, Cathar lived in cities built into giant trees, and were organized into clans governed by “Elders.” Stories of their great heroes were often carved into the trunks of these tree-homes for following generations to see. The Cathar mated for life, to the extent that when one mate died, the survivor never had a relationship with another. Cathar clan society included great pageants and celebrations, especially for their heroes. Their religion included a ritual known as the “Blood Hunt,” in which Cathar warriors individually engaged in combat against entire nests of Kiltik in order to gain honor and purge themselves of inner darkness. The native language of the Cathar was Catharese, which included the emphasis of some words spoken with a growl.
With the return of the Sith Empire during the Great Galactic War, most Cathar sided with the Galactic Republic. By the time of the Cold War, many Cathar had settled on Ord Mantell. Others attempted to settle on Taris to aid in its rebuilding, but were attacked by the Sith Empire just prior to the outbreak of hostilities. As conflict was renewed with the Galactic War, Cathar support for the Republic began to mildly diminish due to galactic events.Cathar had high moral values, learned from both family and society. Their females were prized as slaves, whereas the males were generally regarded as too uncontrollable for slavery.
The baseline Cathar had fur-covered bodies with thick manes. They had prominent, retractable claws that could deliver powerful killing attacks on foes and prey. On average, Cathar were 1.5 to 1.9 meters tall. These traits made them the perfect hand-to-hand specialists.
In Knights of the Old Republic, the Cathar Jedi Juhani speaks Basic, albeit with a heavy Slavic-like accent, with rolled “r”s and “w”s that sound like “v”s. Murghir, a bounty hunter and foe in the Great Hunt encountered by the Bounty Hunter class in Star Wars: The Old Republic, also speaks with the same accent; however, a Cathar companion of the Trooper class in Star Wars: The Old Republic, Aric Jorgan, and a Cathar Jedi Master, Ryen, do not.
Are there still Cathars in France?
There are even Cathars alive today, or at least people claiming to be modern Cathars. There are historical tours of Cathar sites and also a flourishing, if largely superficial, Cathar tourist industry in the Languedoc, and especially in the Aude département.
By accepting all cookies, you agree to our use of cookies to deliver and maintain our services and site, improve the quality of Reddit, personalize Reddit content and advertising, and measure the effectiveness of advertising.
On their home world the Cathar are an arboreal species; the forests of the planet Cathar support vast, living tree-cities decorated with intricate carvings. These carvings depict the heroes and great victories of the Cathar people. When members of the species desire solitude, they retreat from the forests and journey to their planet’s grasslands. Cathar are a passionate people that emphasize the importance of family and honor. They treasure their friendships, but they can just as easily be ferocious enemies.
Cathar possess distinctly leonine features. A Cathar’s hide is covered in fur, and members of the species possess claws, a mane, and elongated canine teeth. Both the mane and canines are less pronounced in females of the species; the elongated fangs of a male Cathar extend from the lower jaw, while the canines of the females are smaller and only grow from the upper jaw. It is also common for males of the species to possess short beards.
Cathar are a playable species in Star Wars: The Old Republic. They are available to both factions once unlocked. Cathar are a species of bipedal feline humanoids native to a planet bearing the same name, located in the Outer Rim Territories of the galaxy. Cathar are known to be an honorable and proud people; they are fiercely loyal to their allies, while at the same time are capable of harboring intense hatred of their enemies.
Issue forty-two of the comic book series Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic, which was released in 2009 and set “approximately 3,963 years before the Battle of Yavin,” first depicted the event via flashback. In that story, Ferroh stated in the present timeframe, “When I returned, a dozen years ago, my people had simply vanished.” The dating of the story and Ferroh’s words place his return to Cathar in approximately 3975 BBY, and the Battle of Cathar in or before the year of his visit. However, the earlier 2008 roleplaying game guidebook Knights of the Old Republic Campaign Guide dated the event to 3973 BBY, as did the subsequent 2012 reference book The Essential Guide to Warfare. The article has followed the most frequently used date. The final act of the Cathar race was to pack the last able-bodied survivors who were able to withstand spaceflight into what few ships remained, sending them off into the void as quickly as possible. Juhani’s family escaped aboard one of these refugee flights, and landed on Taris. The Cathar species itself, though, was nearly rendered extinct as a consequence of the genocide of Cathar.
The Battle of Cathar was the second battle of the Mandalorian Wars before the Mandalorians invaded the Galactic Republic, as the Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders under the leadership of Mandalore the Ultimate conquered worlds just outside of the Republic space. It resulted in the virtual extinction of the Cathar species. It would later be the event that resulted in Revan’s Jedi faction joining the war. However, because they had stood against the Mandalorians in the past, the Cathar realized why they’d truly been targeted, and that there would be no mercy for their species or their world in the end. And because the Cathar were not members of the Galactic Republic, they were left to fend completely for themselves. Near the end of the battle, Cassus herded the surviving Cathar into the ocean and ordered that they be killed. One Mandalorian objected, saying the Cathar had already been defeated. But Cassus said the battle was about revenge, and he intended to kill all Cathar on the planet. He then gave the order to have the remaining Cathar killed, and the Mandalorian who objected died with them.
Mandalore the Ultimate, Mandalore the Indomitable’s successor, rebuilt the Mandalorians by not just reuniting the surviving Taungs, but opening membership to other species. Under his leadership, the Mandalorians became stronger. When the Sith suggested they invade the Republic, saying it would be a battle that would be remembered forever, the Mandalorians eagerly agreed. After the end of the Mandalorian Wars, Cathar began to resettle their world and by the time of the Galactic Civil War, it had fully recovered from the damage the Mandalorians had done.
Who is the rarest Jedi?
Arguably, some of the rarest types of Jedi were the so-called Iron Knights. These are members of the Shards species – crystals with a brain of their own. They were Force-sensitive and all trained under the tutelage of Jedi Master Aqinos. The Shards had droid bodies, similar to that of General Grievous.
To prepare for their invasion of the Republic, the Mandalorians began conquering planets outside Republic space. Meanwhile, the Mandalorians remembered the dishonor they had suffered at the hands of the Cathar during the war with Exar Kun. Because of this grudge, Cathar became one of their earliest targets. Cassus Fett, Mandalore’s prime strategist, was assigned to lead the attack.
This changed in 3963 BBY. The Revanchists, a group of Jedi who wanted to defend the Republic in the war, came to Cathar to find proof of the Mandalorians’ atrocities. The Jedi Council, which had recently dealt with another rogue Jedi faction, sent a team of loyal Jedi, led by Council member Vrook Lamar, to confront them and order them to disband. Soon after that, the Revanchists’ leader found a discarded Mandalorian mask. After this discovery, all the Jedi present then received a vision of the battle, proving the Mandalorians had virtually wiped out the Cathar. Outraged at what he had seen, the Revanchists’ leader, who took the name Revan, swore he wouldn’t rest until the Mandalorians had been defeated. The knowledge of the battle proved to be the catalyst that convinced many Jedi to join Revan. The Council, meanwhile, sanctioned the Revanchists’ actions, but still discouraged other Jedi from joining them. The Mandalorians didn’t stop their conquest with Cathar. They continued to conquer systems outside Republic space and eventually invaded the Republic itself. The Mandalorian’s smashed the Republic military in numerous battles and were on the verge of completely conquering the Republic. The Jedi Order, however, refused to enter the war because the Jedi Council thought there was an unseen threat that was more dangerous than the Mandalorians. The Mandalorians’ attack caught the Cathar people completely off guard. Their military forces converged from space, bombarding the surface, first destroying all interstellar communications relays and orbital spacedock facilities, and then descending to the surface and slaughtering most of the planetary population while they slept or as they fled. Cassus Fett’s Basilisk war-mounts decimated the more primitive Cathar settlements.During the Great Sith War, the Mandalorians, led by Mandalore the Indomitable, sided with the Sith, led by Exar Kun and Ulic Qel-Droma. The Mandalorians ravaged many worlds under Qel-Droma’s command. But the Cathar species were able to stand against the Mandalorians, and aided the Republic and Jedi in repulsing the Sith and Mandalorians. By the war’s end, the Mandalorian numbers had been severely reduced.
Catharese was the written and spoken language of the Cathar. Communication in Catharese included remarking some spoken words with a growl. Cathars were usually also fluent in Basic.
The Cathar first canonically appeared in the 2021 novel Victory’s Price, the third installment of Alexander Freed’s Alphabet Squadron trilogy. In the Star Wars Legends continuity, the Cathar debuted in the first issue of the Dark Lords of the Sith arc of the comic series Star Wars: Tales of the Jedi, which was published by Dark Horse Comics on October 1, 1994.During the High Republic Era, the Cathar Tasia served as a Storm in Lourna Dee’s Tempest of the Nihil pirate organization. In 5 ABY, the Cathar female Dhina served as an ensign aboard the Star Destroyer Deliverance, the flagship of New Republic General Hera Syndulla.
The Cathar species also had two additional subspecies, known as the Juhani and the Myr Rho. Both of these were notably less catlike than mainline Cathar. Cathar were born into a litter. The Cathar species was biologically similar to the Bothan species.
Do Cathar have tails?
No, there’s no lore reason for Cathar not having tails. They just don’t. It’s not how the race/species was designed. There aren’t any sub-species of Cathar with tails, either, so you’re out of luck there, too.

Stories of their great heroes were often carved into the trunks of these tree-homes for following generations to see. The Cathar mated for life, to the extent that when one mate died, the survivor never had a relationship with another. Cathar clan society included great pageants and celebrations, especially for their heroes. Their religion included a ritual known as the “Blood Hunt”, in which Cathar warriors individually engaged in combat against entire nests of Kiltik in order to gain honor and purge themselves of inner darkness. The native language of the Cathar was Catharese, which included the emphasis of some spoken words with a growl.
Château Marcel is privately owned. The offered apartments and studio’s come with extra free services, quite unique in France. Hosts Conny or René are always available for any questions or help where needed.
Leader of the crusade against the Albigensians, he led this war with courage and cruelty. He had already distinguished himself for his bravery during the Fourth Crusade. He represents the ‘Puritanism of the North’. He is the perfect opposite of his enemy, Count Raymond VI of Toulouse, the symbol of the ‘southern libertine’. They are the model of the clash of the two cultures.
Who is the most respected Jedi?
Yoda #1 – Yoda. Yoda is widely considered to be the greatest Jedi of all time, and with good reason. He is a master of the Force, a skilled warrior, and has an unmatched wisdom that comes from centuries of experience. He is the embodiment of what it means to be a Jedi, and his legacy lives on long after his death.
At the end of the extermination of the Cathars, the Roman Church had proof that a sustained campaign of genocide can work. It also had the precedent of an internal Crusade within Christendom, and the machinery of the first modern police state that could be reconstructed for the Spanish Inquisition, and again for later Inquisitions and genocides. Chateaubriand referred to the crusade as “this abominable episode of our history”. Voltaire observed that “there was never anything as unjust as the war against the Albigensians”.Château Marcel began modestly as a conglomeration of small houses built in the 9th century in the middle of the old mountain village of Cesseras that owes its name to the river Cesse that formed the beautiful gorges just behind the village.
What is Sith Yoda's species?
The Jedi Master Yoda was the best-known member of a species whose true name is not recorded. Known in some sources simply as Yoda’s species, this species of small carnivorous humanoids produced several well-known members of the Jedi Order during the time of the Galactic Republic.
The Cathars (also known as Cathari from the Greek Katharoi for “pure ones”) were a dualist medieval religious sect of Southern France which flourished in the 12th century CE and challenged the authority of the Catholic Church. They were also known as Albigensians for the town of Albi, which was a strong Cathar center of belief. Cathar priests lived simply, had no possessions, imposed no taxes or penalties, and regarded men and women as equals; aspects of the faith which appealed to many at the time disillusioned with the Church. Cathar beliefs ultimately derived from the Persian religion of Manichaeism but directly from another earlier religious sect from Bulgaria known as the Bogomils who blended Manichaeism with Christianity.
Cathars rejected the teachings of the Catholic Church as immoral and most of the books of the Bible as inspired by Satan. They criticized the Church heavily for the hypocrisy, greed, and lechery of its clergy, and the Church’s acquisition of land and wealth. Not surprisingly, the Cathars were condemned as heretical by the Catholic Church and massacred in the Albigensian Crusade (1209-1229 CE) which also devastated the towns, cities, and culture of southern France.
From 1208, a war of terror was waged against the indigenous population of the Languedoc and their rulers: Raymond VI of Toulouse, Raymond-Roger Trencavel, Raymond Roger of Foix in the first generation and Raymond VII of Toulouse, Raymond Trencavel II, and Roger Bernard II of Foix in the second generation. During this period an estimated half-million Languedoc men, women and children were massacred, Catholics as well as Cathars. The Crusaders killed the locals indiscriminately – in line with the the famous injunction recorded by a Cistercian chronicler as being spoken by his fellow Cistercian, the Abbot in command of the Crusader army at Béziers. The history of the Languedoc vineyard begins with the Greeks several centuries before our era. Like many other regions, viticulture only really exploded under the impetus of the Romans. Today, there are still many echoes of influences from the Cathar period, from International geopolitics down to popular culture. There are even Cathars alive today, or at least people claiming to be modern Cathars. There are historical tours of Cathar sites and also a flourishing, if largely superficial, Cathar tourist industry in the Languedoc, and especially in the Aude département.
A war machine (“la Malevoisine”) was built to the north-west of the town, near the covered road, on the rocky plateau overlooking the junction of the Brian and the Cesse. After an unsuccessful attempt to destroy this trebuchet and several days of talks between Guillaume de Minerve and Simon de Montfort, the besieged could only capitulate, after two months of strangulation of the city. Conny and René realized their dream with the purchase of Château Marcel in 2018. They are happy to assist you if you have any questions about the possibilities the area has to offer. Planning your biking or hiking trip or discover some treasures by car? Just ask your host! The Counts of Toulouse and their allies were dispossessed and humiliated, and their lands later annexed to France. Educated and tolerant Languedoc rulers were replaced by relative barbarians; Dominic Guzmán (later Saint Dominic) founded the Dominican Order. Within a few years the first papal Inquisition, manned by the Dominicans, was established explicitly to wipe out the last vestiges of resistance. In the Languedoc, known at the time for its high culture, tolerance and liberalism, the Cathar religion took root and gained more and more adherents during the twelfth century. By the early thirteenth century Catharism was probably the majority religion in the area. Many Catholic texts refer to the danger of it replacing Catholisism completely.
The religion flourished in an area often referred to as the Languedoc, broadly bordered by the Mediterannean Sea, the Pyrenees, and the rivers Garonne, Tarn and Rhône -— and corresponding to the new French region of Occitanie (or the old French regions of Languedoc-Roussillon and Midi-Pyrénées)
Cathars maintained a Church hierarchy and practiced a range of ceremonies, but rejected any idea of priesthood or the use of church buildings. They divided into ordinary believers who led ordinary medieval lives and an inner Elect of Parfaits (men) and Parfaites (women) who led extremely ascetic lives yet still worked for their living – generally in itinerant manual trades like weaving. Cathars believed in reincarnation and refused to eat meat or other animal products. They were strict about biblical injunctions – notably those about living in poverty, not telling lies, not killing and not swearing oaths.Records from the Roman Catholic Church mention them under various names and in various places. Catholic theologians debated with themselves for centuries whether Cathars were Christian heretics or whether they were not Christians at all. The question is apparently still open. Roman Catholics still refer to Cathar belief as “the Great Heresy” though the official Catholic position is that Catharism is not Christian at all.
Catharism was supported or at least tolerated by the nobility as well as the common people. This was yet another annoyance to the Roman Church which considered the feudal system to be divinely ordained as the Natural Order (Cathars disliked the feudal system because it depended on oath taking).
At the beginning of the 13th century, Minerve became a place of passage and residence for the Cathars. As one of the three strategic places (along with Termes and Lastours) that controlled the region, Minerve was the object of a siege in 1210 (from 15 June) by Simon de Montfort’s crusaders.Refusing to renounce their faith, the Cathars of Minerve ended up being burnt at the stake: nearly 140 people perished in the flames that heralded the terror of the Inquisition. As Dualists, Cathars believed in two principles, a good god and his evil adversary (much like God and Satan of mainstream Christianity). The good principle had created everything immaterial (good, permanent, immutable) while the bad principle had created everything material (bad, temporary, perishable). Cathars called themselves simply Christians; their neighbours distinguished them as “Good Christians”. The Catholic Church called them Albigenses, or less frequently Cathars. Not anger, peace… Yet even with your naive attitude you managed to beat me. I am pathetic. I sit here and think myself to be great by embracing the dark side, but I am nothing! There is no way I could be turned back! I always thought they held me back, were jealous of my power. But it is only because I was not good enough to meet their standards… I never have been. I seem to still have much to learn… Both about being a Jedi, and about myself. But I wish the cost of my ignorance had not been so high. I wish that my Master had not suffered because of me. I only wish things could have been different… If she were alive now, there would be so much I would say to her… So much I would apologize for. Oh, how can the Council ever take me back with what I have done? Striking my Master down in anger is unforgivable! If I show them I am free of passion… That I am serene… That I am willing to forsake the dark side. Maybe, just maybe, they would accept me back. Do you think they would? Could it be possible after what I have done? I will return to the Council, then. I shall submit myself to their judgement, and hope that they will forgive me.They dwell in large city-trees, each meticulously carved with friezes depicting the city’s heroes and history. The planet Cathar is a wild place, with many ecological niches and huge insect predators.
What is the massacre of Cathar Star Wars?
The Battle of Cathar was the second battle of the Mandalorian Wars before the Mandalorians invaded the Galactic Republic, as the Mandalorian Neo-Crusaders under the leadership of Mandalore the Ultimate conquered worlds just outside of the Republic space. It resulted in the virtual extinction of the Cathar species.
The Cathar easily hold their own, aided by their natural claws and passionate combat ability. Physically, the Cathar vary greatly in size and features. Some are muscular, with pronounced manes and beards, but others have Humanlike proportions, with fine, short hair covering their bodies. Cathar coloration ranges from light yellow to dark beige, sometimes accented with dark stripes.I am Juhani, and this is my grove. This is the place of my dark power. This is the place you have invaded. When I embraced the dark side, this was where I sought my solace. It is MINE! When I slew my Master, Quatra, I knew I could never go back. And now I revel in my dark power. I struck her down in the middle of training, consumed by my anger, embracing the power of hate! But… it was not enough… I have fallen and dark power courses through my veins. I can never go back to the Council, so here I shall stay. One of the key elements in the Republic effort to restore Taris to its former glory is the establishment of a small Cathar colony on the planet’s surface. Coming from a homeworld ravaged by war, the Cathar species has come to symbolize the Republic’s resilience and fortitude in the face of overwhelming odds… much like Taris itself.
Twi’lek: Ack! *cough* Heh, you seem to have defeated me, Cathar worm, but I’ll have the last laugh in the end! *cough* You may have killed me here, today, but I had the pleasure of killing off your species! Not everyone who fought alongside the Mandalorians did it for their stupid concept of ‘honor’. Some of us did it just for the pleasure: the pleasure of seeing your world burn. I killed your people on Cathar in the sky, on the ground, in their homes. I hunted them down like the animals they were, just to see them burn. But the treacherous beasts fought back and left me with injuries that meant I could never fight again… or so they thought! I ended up in the Lower City of Taris, and what did I find? A few of those stinking beasts living there! The male was easy enough to best, but the females proved elusive. I didn’t know what happened to them after I killed the male, until I saw this cursed woman on the auction block. But then the Jedi came and ruined everything before I could have my revenge… *cough*Cathar are a feline humanoid species native to the planet of the same name. They are normally covered in fur, although variations in the genetic baseline have expressed themselves as at least two distinct subspecies. Cathar are noteworthy hand-to-hand combatants, possessing retractable claws, strong physiques and natural agility.
On the world I left to become a Jedi – Cathar. When I returned, a dozen years ago, my people had simply vanished. All of them. Only the buildings remained. The Republic assumed as mass migration due to disease – but offworld, other Cathar refugees told me fragmented tales of harassment by the Mandalorians, who’d hated us since the Sith War. I was certain the Mandalorians were responsible – as was my Master, who knew the Jedi would never join us unless they came face to face with the Mandalorian atrocities.
Twi’lek: Put one of you down like the animals you are. So easy… then I saw one of the females on the auction block, but those darn Jedi… What? Me? Oh ho! Now I recognize where I’ve seen that face before. You were the little Cathar I was going to purchase. But those Jedi came and stole my pet away from me! When I was fighting with the Mandalorians against the Cathar, I developed an appreciation for these creatures. They make excellent servants if properly trained. You Jedi act all prim and proper, but inside you must feel the same way I do about the lesser, non-human species. The Sith at least let their feelings show on the outside.
Cathar are available in many natural colors in the character creator, from tan and beige to brown and dark gray. Colors between male and female Cathar are very similar but not exactly the same.
Though beaten by the resurgent Republic, the Mandalorians did not keep quiet. Under the leadership of Mandalore the Ultimate, the warriors occupied huge expanses of civilized space during the Mandalorian Wars. This set in motion the Jedi Civil War, also known as the Second Sith War. Starting in 3976 BBY, Mandalore the Ultimate initiated the first skirmishes of what history would call the Mandalorian Wars. Althir and Cathar became the first two targets. Yet despite the ferocity of the Mandalorian attacks—more than 90 percent of the Cathar died in the assault on their world—the Republic did nothing to intervene in conflicts occurring outside its borders. The new alien recruits face down prejudice and competition to prove their worth and secure power within the evolving Empire. Cathar clans have vaulted to prominence, while Kaleesh tribes and countless other species pledge their support to the Imperial fight. Fueled by these brave and committed alien warriors, the Empire rallies its strength and marches into a new era. But just as all seemed lost, our leaders noticed something underfoot – a mask. And the second the light struck it – the Cathar were back! People I left behind – people I never met, charged the beach, running for their lives! In the time since their near-extinction, the Cathar have rebuilt their numbers to become common faces on Republic worlds. The Jedi Order, Galactic Senate and Republic military all claim numerous proud and loyal Cathar among their ranks. It is rare to encounter a Cathar who doesn’t actively despise the Sith Empire–and especially its Mandalorian allies.
The rebellion of Malgus the Betrayer struck a decisive blow to the Imperial war effort, weakening the Empire’s offensive and shattering its united front. Alien factions that flocked to Malgus’s banner would forever be judged for their disloyalty. But in a time of turmoil, those species that remained faithful were rewarded.
Two of the greatest Cathar heroes, the female Sylvar and her mate Crado, were powerful Jedi Knights. Four thousand years before the Galactic Civil War, Crado fell to the dark side under the tutelage of Exar Kun. He was destroyed in an explosion after trying to activate an ancient Sith superweapon for his master. Sylvar, angry over the death of her mate, almost fell to the dark side herself before regaining the Jedi path. Both are remembered on Cathar itself in meticulously carved works of tree-art.
Juhani: My Cathar blood seethes at the thought of that man still running free. I cannot stand still while I think about it, but… but I will not give in to the dark side either. He will pay for his crimes, though. He will most likely be following us… me. If we could find him first, then he may not be able to set in motion whatever he has in store for us.
Twi’lek: *grunt* What the hell is your kind doing here? Bad enough I have to deal with all these other idiots, but now there’s a stinkin’ Cathar on this world too?

Cathar have leonine features and flowing manes, with males’ manes generally larger than those of females. Male Cathar have short beards and two tusks jutting from the lower jaw, while females merely have impressive fangs along the upper jaw, Males average 1.8 meters tall, while females average 1.6 meters tall.Cathar adventures can be of any heroic class. Force-sensitive Cathar often become Jedi. Cathar scoundrels are relatively rare, for even they cannot escape their own instinctive morals. Such scoundrels create their own rules to live by.
But the flourishing recolonization was not to last. The shadows of an Imperial fleet soon blotted out the sky, and as the sunlight faded so too did any hope for the Tarisian settlers. Thousands fled into the Republic military’s protective arms, while more pessimistic settlers abandoned Taris entirely. The Cathar and Nikto colonists, however, refused to move. Taris was their new home, and they are prepared to die defending it.
The best way to reach me is by messaging me on Twitter. You’re welcome to message me with any comments about my guides or with questions about the game! The Mandalorians had returned to take revenge on the Republic and sate their lust for war and conquest. With the Jedi Council refusing to lend military aid–believing the true threat was still unclear, and the risk of conflict-hardened Jedi falling to the darkness was high–the Republic was unable to prevent the Mandalorians from devastating the planet Cathar. Millions died. This was the last straw for several young Jedi, who disobeyed the Council to join the war effort. As the Republic began its reconstruction of Taris, the planet’s hostile jungles and ruins became habitable for the first time. Offworld refugees from across the galaxy petitioned for the chance to be among Taris’s first settlers. Republic politicians eagerly publicized the humanitarian resettlement and showered the lucky colonists with gifts of aid. Although there were severe difficulties early on, the refugees eventually took root and thrived. The final three in this gallery, the bright yellow orange and orange-red ones, are considered the dark-side eyes, and can be purchased as a cosmetic for the character creator as well.In the older comics, you will see male Cathar with tusks – this piece of lore seems to not carry through outside of the comics, and both male and female Cathar in most media simply have sharp teeth.
A born leader, Aric Jorgan is one of the Republic’s most capable field officers. He enlisted in the military at an early age and quickly distinguished himself as a talented marksman. His impeccable service record earned him a spot in the Republic’s top sniper squad, where he successfully carried out over a dozen missions against high-ranking Imperial targets. Since his transfer to Fort Garnik, Jorgan has earned a reputation as a hard and demanding taskmaster. However, few realize his surly demeanor belies a genuine concern for the well-being of his troops. While those under his command may not particularly like the brooding Cathar, they almost always respect him.
There was always the danger of rakghouls coming up from the sewers, or more mundane predators living and working in the area. My family and I struggled each and every day to make something of our lives, but we could only go so far. Taxes from the corrupt government, more fees from the gangs controlling the streets, and whatever was left paying for what food and medical supplies we could afford. And of course there was the constant bigotry and hate from the more affluent and human citizens. Lording their wealth over us living below. Every once in a while a rich human would come down through the lower levels with his droid entourage just to see how the ‘wildlife’ lived… and laughed at the mockeries that were our successes. But I have come to meet many decent humans in my travels since those days. Indeed, some of the greatest people I have ever met are human.
Cathar have leonine features, the distinctiveness of which varies by individual. Males have large manes, short beards, and tusks jutting from the lower jaw. Females have smaller manes but impressive fangs along the upper jaw.
You can play any type of character as a Cathar, as species are not restricted to certain Origin Stories or Combat Styles in Star Wars: The Old Republic. Cassus Fett: “The Cathar left a stain of doshonor on the Mando’ade. Today, I was it clean in the waters of their own presumption. But if you truly feel they need a defender to stand with them – then do so, Warrior. I salute you. Ke’serim!” The most notable was Revan, a charismatic and skilled leader who rose to the rank of general. Revan’s friend Alek, later known as Malak, distinguished himself on the front lines. Revan’s tactics and Malak’s unyielding strength turned the tide, helping the Republic forces to victory at Althir and Jaga’s Cluster. In recent years, many Cathar have begun to help the Republic’s efforts to repopulate the ruined world of Taris, with the establishment of a small colony on the planet’s surface. The Cathar have come to represent the Republic’s efforts to restore life to this battered world.
It was the Cathar reputation for martial prowess that drew the Mandalorians to besiege their homeworld several centuries ago. Despite their valiant resistance against the remorseless invaders, the native Cathar were virtually exterminated. Out of millions, only a few hundred escaped the Mandalorians’ attack and fled to Republic space.
Cathar – the people and the planet – screamed around us. And then – it was over. We were alone on the beach. But we had seen what the Cathar had seen – and we had felt what they had felt. Unspeakable cruelty. Pain. The death of a species, boiled away in the sea. Fett only intended to leave empty buildings to attest to the existence of the Cathar. But he forgot there was another testament…
It was a Jedi Vision of event from years before – a vision we were all now sharing. We yelled as the Mandalorians withdrew, leaving the Cathar in the water. But no one heard! We were never here – but perhaps they would listen to someone who was there. One of their own, who dared to speak!
Twi’lek: A specimen like you would be a nice addition to my collection. So what would it take, Jedi, for you to sell your pet here to me? Now don’t be so selfish. We both know Cathar aren’t real people anyway. The females make amusing pets, but males should be put down like the animals they are. I remember one time on Taris…The creator of the Fantasy Name Generator used these rules to generate Cathar names: “Cathar names are usually 2 syllables long, although male names can be 1 syllable long, and female names can be 3 syllables long. Their names can sound both melodic and fairly guttural, but they almost always sound strong and fierce. Their last names are either 1 or 2 syllables long and have the same sound and feel as their first names.” The Cathar are an ancient, socially advanced species of bipedal feline humanoids from a planet of the same name. Cathar itself is a large world of numerous ecological niches, including rough uplands with gigantic insect predators. The Cathar species dwells in large, living city-trees. Each tree is artistically carved with friezes showing the triumphant history of the Cathar and their heroes. Cathar use the wide grasslands known as the Vast Veldtas a place of solitude. All players will need to unlock the Cathar before they create a Cathar character. All players can unlock the Cathar for all classes by purchasing the item Legacy Species Unlock: Cathar from the Cartel Market with Cartel Coins or from the GTN with credits. The Cartel Market sells this unlock for 600 Cartel Coins, the price and availability on the GTN will change day to day and per server, but it is likely very expensive. There is no other way to unlock this species, it is considered a “Cartel Market” species because of this and was added after the game’s launch.Having fled the birthworld of my species, my parents flew as far and wide as they could. And so I was raised alone, knowing of my birthplace only the few stories my parents could tell, and seeing no other member of my species at all… In the early days of the Mandalorian war, there had been fighting closer to the Outer Rim worlds. Cathar was there, yes. My people had a great reputation as warriors… and that appealed to the Mandalore version of ‘honor’. They sought to test themselves against us, I think… test themselves by bombing our world, slaughtering my people while they slept or while they ran. They swooped down from space across the world, firing at anything that moved. They used ships in space to destroy all orbital facilities and bombard the surface. We did resist, and in spite of their violent attack we did stave them off for quite a while. But in the end we were doomed… We were prepared! Just not for an invasion of that size… And we had counted on the aid of our allies. Of the Republic… We were not members of the Republic. Cathar was beyond the edge of the Republic, in the Outer Rim. And besides, they could not have known. Our interstellar communications were the first things the Mandalores hit. All other short-range communicators were jammed… we were on our own. We knew what was coming. We had fought the Mandalorians in the first war against Exar Kun and the Sith. We knew there would be no mercy for us. The most we could do was pack the few of our people who survived onto what few ships remained and send them off into space as fast as they could. Most did not make it. My parents carried me as a baby with them and were lucky enough to escape. They fled as far as they were able, and eventually settled on Taris. They could stand running no further, I think… But Taris was a horrible choice. Dominated by humans, intolerant of other species, it made everyday life unnecessarily hard. My father… my father turned to stimulants. He spent much of his time in local bars and dives. But we are warriors. It runs through our blood. And when he was on stims he… he… he became foolish… he let his warrior nature get the best of him. So he would get intoxicated, and he would fight, and finally one day he would die. Killed by a man who provoked him into a fight and killed him like an animal. After my father died, my mother was left to support me alone. A single non-human woman, living in one of the worst, most violent slums on Taris. It was not easy for her. Female names are typically longer than male names. Surnames are usually one syllable.” (The young Cathar apprentice Juhani is the source of the dark taint permeating the meditation grove. She has fallen to the dark side… although, perhaps not as completely as she believes. To remove the taint and complete the final trial, you must convince her to release dark feelings… or destroy her and remove the taint forever.)
