Hill is more polished at this point in his career, but the savvy veteran took time to develop on the field. Toney will do the same.It’s worth noting that under Brian Daboll’s staff, Toney saw 16 snaps in the slot compared to 17 out wide. So, it was more of a 50-50 split, albeit in limited action.One way to explore the Chiefs’ potential usage of Toney is to look at how he was used during his time with the Giants over the last one-and-a-half seasons.

Still, the Chiefs felt like they could stand to add more depth at the position before the 2022 NFL trade deadline. As such, they acquired 2021 first-round pick Kadarius Toney from the Giants in exchange for a couple of draft picks. So far, the team has done a good job of mixing and matching at the position. JuJu Smith-Schuster and Marquez Valdes-Scantling each found roles to play in the receiver room and Patrick Mahomes hasn’t missed a beat with more receiver depth at his disposal. Toney was an explosive playmaker at times during his rookie season with the Giants, but he fell out of favor under the team’s new brain trust of Joe Schoen and Brian Daboll. So, the speedy playmaker was given a fresh start, and the Chiefs will look to benefit from buying low on the Florida product.

Toney will likely continue to be utilized both in the slot and out wide with the Chiefs in the same manner as Hill. In fact, that rotation is a big part of Kansas City’s offense as is, as each of its top-three receivers in 2022 — Smith-Schuster, Valdes-Scantling and Hardman — have spent time both in the slot and out wide this season.

Reid will put Toney where he believes the receiver’s speed will play best. That could change on a play-to-play basis, so Toney’s versatility will prove crucial in his ability to earn snaps in Kansas City’s offense. Toney adds to the Chiefs’ ability to replace Hill in their offense. He may, in fact, be the closest thing to Hill that Kansas City currently has on its roster. And if he is used properly, Toney could break out as he gets acclimated to Andy Reid’s offense. In Super Bowl LVII, Toney set an NFL record by recording a 65-yard punt return in the fourth quarter, surpassing Jordan Norwood’s record of a 61-yard punt return in Super Bowl 50. Toney caught a fourth quarter touchdown that helped put the Chiefs ahead for the first time all game. The Chiefs defeated the Philadelphia Eagles 38-35.

As a junior, Toney threw for 3,604 yards while rushing for 896 and having 53 touchdowns (37 passing, 16 rushing). He was named Alabama 6A second-team all state selection, was selected to the AL.com Coastal Alabama first-team. This week projects to be one of the strongest. Toney may not be a league winner, but his ceiling is startable weekly WR2. That’s extremely rare to find this late in the season.

With each successive week, FAAB becomes less and less valuable because anyone you pick up is spending fewer and fewer weeks on your roster. Toney is definitely a priority pickup. If he’s out there, feel free to bid as much as 15-20%.With that said, a case can be made that Toney is the top wide receiver available on the Week 11 waiver wire. Only one team can get White. If that isn’t you, Toney isn’t a bad consolation prize.

Toney is the most talented wide receiver on the Chiefs. His performance has to have earned him a larger role, especially if Hardman and Smith-Schuster are forced to miss more time. The Chiefs lack a true alpha WR1. It could be Toney going forward. He just has to stay on the field.Toney is not the top waiver add of the week. That honor goes to Rachaad White. In general, running backs are almost always better pickups than wide receivers.

Week 10 was a rough one for injuries. We lost a couple of very fantasy-relevant players, possibly for extended periods of time. Injuries to two Chiefs wide receivers opened the door for Kadarius Toney to see an increased role, and he delivered. How much of a priority is Toney for fantasy football managers to add off the waiver wire ahead of Week 11?The Chiefs throw the ball 66% of the time, the second-highest rate in the league. It’s why I’d never recommend taking Patrick Mahomes’ passing yards lower on Underdog Fantasy. Chasing pieces of this passing attack is never a bad idea. About half of you have already added Toney. I expect a whole lot more to pick him up this Tuesday night.

Toney did not play much last season. If Moore takes a step forward (not something I think he will do, though), or the team prefers the reliability of James or the rookie Rice comes on strong, we could easily see Toney relegated to the same type of role he had last season.

If Toney stays where he is, I completely understand taking the shot. Chasing Mahomes’ WR1 is worth it. At the same time, Toney’s floor is literally zero. Not only is the injury situation a risk but the unclear depth chart works both ways.Last season, Toney played seven regular-season and three playoff games with the Chiefs. In those games, he operated as the team’s WR4/5, playing firmly behind JuJu Smith-Schuster, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, and Mecole Hardman. His Week 10 43% snap share was the only game in which he cracked over 35%.

Although JuJu is not a true WR1, he’s at least a quality WR2. Hardman is a WR3. Both of them are now gone. That leaves Mahomes’ most veteran receiver as MVS, who should be a rotational WR3, at best.Additionally, the injury bug bit Toney again while in Kansas City. After three games with the team, he missed the next three due to a hamstring strain, something he had dealt with multiple times in New York.

Entering his sophomore season, there was a discrepancy between the Giants and Toney himself as to how healthy he was. Toney believed he was ready to play. The Giants refused to play him, claiming he was too injured. The rift ultimately led to the Giants trading Toney to the Chiefs, where he saw the field immediately.Toney posted some promising metrics as a rookie, particularly his 29% targets-per-route-run rate, which was good for seventh in the league. In Week 5, Toney caught 10 of 13 targets for 189 yards. He displayed quite the high ceiling on a bad offense very early in his career. However, the real story of his rookie season was injury.My early inclination is Toney is far better for Best Ball than seasonal leagues. While he undoubtedly has WR1 upside, we will need some positive reports from Chiefs camp before I can endorse drafting him in the seventh round or higher. The Chiefs’ wide receivers really tested Patrick Mahomes last year. The best quarterback of all time (yeah, I said it) proved he can win with Travis Kelce and a medley of guys who should be WR2s or WR3s, at best. This season, it seems the Chiefs have increased the difficulty. Ultimately, it is still too early to really formulate a strong opinion on Toney for the 2023 season. Training camp reports and preseason playing time will provide greater insight into how the Chiefs’ wide receiver depth chart might look.It’s only May, so there’s very little value in redraft ADP. The best we can use is Underdog’s Best Ball data. Currently, Toney is around 79th overall. That puts him in the middle of the seventh round. It’s a very tricky spot.

Last year, Toney was a situational underneath guy the team manufactured targets for in space. He played a specific and niche role. What Toney was not was a true wide receiver running a complete route tree.For those of you participating in early Best Ball drafts, Toney will definitely have his weeks where he scores. And it’s important to chase ceiling outcomes in the format.

I will scream it until I’m blue in the face that we cannot predict injuries. But there are exceptions to every rule. When a player has been hurt as many times as Toney with as many injuries as he’s had in such a short period of time, it is absolutely fair to increase how heavily we weigh the injury factor in his evaluation.As a rookie, Toney played in just 10 games. Most concerningly, though, wasn’t the number of games missed — it was the fact that he missed games with four different issues. It certainly feels like Toney has been in the NFL for more than two seasons. The New York Giants 2021 first-round selection has faced quite the trials and tribulations in just two short years in the league. Ever since they traded away Tyreek Hill a year ago, the Kansas City Chiefs have been making do with a patchwork receiving corps. Following the departures of JuJu Smith-Schuster and Mecole Hardman, they are in dire need of someone to step up. Could Kadarius Toney be that guy and become a WR1 in fantasy football this year?

Being a member of the 2.0+ yards per route run and 10+ missed tackles as a rookie club is prestigious and likely signals a star is ready to appear on the scene.The above table clearly demonstrates both how small of sample we’re dealing with with Toney and how outstandingly efficient he was when injuries didn’t keep him on the sideline.

What else is so encouraging about Toney’s 2022 prospects is that his game is less reliant on quarterback or offensive line play than other receivers. So even if you’re almost fully out on Daniel Jones or the Giants blocking unit, don’t let that impact your thoughts on Toney’s future. Because he’s such an electric weapon with the ball in his hands, the Giants will often utilize him on short, high-percentage throws. His average depth of target was only 6.5 yards in his rookie season.Just how efficient, you ask? Here’s how Toney’s regular season yards-per-route-run figure — the ultimate efficiency metric for receivers — compared to his 2021 draft class contemporaries:Whether it be on short passes, long passes, throws from Jones or always-lurking backup Tyrod Taylor, Toney has all the makings of becoming a nearly impossible to tackle star in his second NFL season.Even after dealing with a minor ankle injury and potentially facing repercussions for a punch he threw that caused officials to eject him late against Dallas, Toney is a must-add on waivers this week.

Jerick McKinnon may also see his role increased if Edwards-Helaire is out for a stretch. The 29-year-old veteran is only worth a speculative add in the deepest of formats, however, and shouldn’t cut into Williams’ workload much if the LSU product can stay healthy.It’s a marked change from earlier in the year, when the No. 20 overall pick had been frustrated with his role. Toney caught a meager four passes for 14 yards over the first three games of his career and seemed to be the odd man out.

Fantasy managers will want to keep tabs on Edwards-Helaire in the coming days. Head coach Andy Reid didn’t give any additional details following the game, but the back was spotted going for X-rays.David Njoku started off the 2021 campaign with an impressive five-catch, 76-yard showing, but he had since fallen out of favor in the Cleveland Browns’ passing game. Shrewd managers should be looking at which starters will be missing over these next few weeks and put a plan in place to fill those positions. If you aren’t happy with your bye-week replacement options, it’s time to scour waivers. Booker will have extra value in PPR leagues as a checkdown option for whoever lines up under center. The 29-year-old running back hauled in three of his four targets for 16 yards and a score on Sunday and could see plenty more short passes thrown his way against a swarming Los Angeles Rams defense this weekend.

The Football Team defense has been allowing over 400 yards (sixth-most in the NFL) and 31 points per game (second-most) to the opposition. It should be a high-scoring affair, one in which Williams could garner up to 20 touches and find pay dirt at least once if he’s serving as KC’s primary ball-carrier.Rookie receiver Kadarius Toney had no problem picking up the slack, snagging 10 of his 13 targets and exploding for 189 yards. That performance—easily the best of Toney’s fledgling career—followed a promising Week 4 showing in which the Florida product hauled in six of nine targets for 78 yards.
