He became involved in record production, talent management and organizing artists under the Organisasyon ng Pilipinong Mang-aawit (O.P.M., acronym translation: “Organization of Philippine Singers/musicians”). The group expanded its activities into establishing and furthering the careers of new OPM artists in the Philippines. In 2010, the APO Hiking Society, composed of Javier, Paredes, and Garrovillo decided to retire as a group after 41 years of activity. They performed a series of farewell concerts that started on February 14, 2010, and ended in May, just in time for the elections. In 2018, He retired from both singing and acting.

Javier coined the term “OPM” (Original Pinoy Music, Original Philippine Music, Original Pilipino Music), originally referring to the Music of the Philippines and Philippine pop songs, particularly ballads, and any musical composition created by a Filipino that became popular in the Philippines during the late ’70s. The term continued to be used in following decades to refer to Filipino music popular in those decades.
Javier died of complications due to a prolonged illness at the National Kidney and Transplant Institute on October 31, 2022, at the age of 75, as confirmed by his daughter Justine.

Javier began his musical career in the late ’60s. He was already dabbling in performing solo and with other groups when he enrolled at the Ateneo de Manila University for college. He became part of a singing group named Danny, Mandy, and Alice, with Mandy Marquez and Alice Zerrudo. In 1970, Javier met Jim Paredes, Boboy Garrovillo, Ric Segreto, and 12 other original members of the Apolinario Mabini Hiking Society or known today as APO Hiking Society. Although he was a latecomer to the group, remember the members had been together since high school and in some cases, even grade school, Danny instantly became the lead vocalist. The group was formed and had its fledgling beginnings in 1969 at the Ateneo de Manila High School. After graduation, the majority of its members left to pursue individual careers, with only three members remaining, made up of Javier, Paredes, and Garrovillo.

After APO disbanded in 2010, Javier resided in General Santos and had been visiting the United States on a regular basis. Javier had a near-death experience in 2011 and was a survivor of kidney failure, pneumonia, emphysema, heart failure, hepatitis, diabetes and sepsis. He later became an advocate of moringa as a traditional and alternative medicine.
Javier also ventured in a T-shirt business called Pidro: Ang Saplot Ng Bayan, based on Pidro, a character he created about a man from the rural areas of the Philippines who came to Manila seeking good fortune. Pidro was selected as the official shirt of the Philippine Centennial celebrations in 1998.

Javier openly supported the candidacy of Rodrigo Duterte in the 2016 Philippine presidential election while he supported Leni Robredo in the 2022 Philippine presidential election.

While there’s no doubt that this heartthrob has young ladies clamoring after him, many who’ve added the Liar actor to their crush list are wondering whether the Spanish star is single, taken, or married. But the past is in the past! And Javier and Blanca seem to be really happy together today. It turns out that before working together on El verano que vivimos, the Spanish actors had already starred in a project opposite each other. Together, the new couple act opposite each other in a recently released film, El verano que vivimos, based on the real 1998 story of a journalist who travels throughout Spain and finds love as she discovers the entire Iberian peninsula. When it comes to Spanish shows and their men these days, everyone seems to be obsessed with Javier Rey, the actor perhaps best known for the Netflix series Hache, as well as Cocaine Coast and Velvet.

As a matter of fact, the two collaborated on 2016’s television miniseries Lo que escondían sus ojos, which translates roughly to “What Their Eyes Were Hiding,” and tells the story of the clandestine love between Ramón Serrano Súñer and the Marquise de Llanzol. Both Javier and Blanca seem to have been spending the past few months of winter up in the mountains, and have been sharing Instagram photos of their very cozy, snowy days.

The The Skin I Live In actress was linked to fellow actor Mario Casas (Cross the Line, The Paramedic) for nearly two years, and many Spanish outlets found it shocking that they had broken up, even going so far as to call her present relationship with Javier surprising.
It’s not exactly known why Javier and Iris broke up after 15 years as a couple, but these days, the notoriously private Hache star is in a relationship with another Netflix star: Cable Girls actress Blanca Suárez.Likewise, Blanca has been posting some adorable snaps of her boo in promotional photos for their newest movie, and even offered up some behind-the-scenes sneak peeks at what it was like to film.Although Javier is usually exceptionally private about his personal life, he’s even been sharing photos of Blanca on his social media page, which leads us to believe that the gorgeous couple is still going strong.

Danny was also ventured as a businessman as a clothing manager of Pidro: Ang Saplot Ng Bayan which he sells to his super loyal customers from his various showbiz & non showbiz personalities.
