This is a list of the largest local police departments in the United States as defined by the Bureau of Justice Statistics, by numbers of full-time sworn personnel.When a report request is submitted via the Online Citizen Police Report System portal, an email confirming your submission will be sent to you. Police departments have dual command over them. Operationally they work under the Superintendent of Police but at the same time, the executive powers are vested in the District Magistrate who is responsible for the law and order of the city. The police need to take warrants from the DM in order to arrest anybody because the powers to issue warrants and arms licenses are vested in District Magistrate. Police rank in India are still based on archaic British rule when controlling was the prime objective instead of serving. In historic times, the police force was directly controlled by the Imperial Government, but after independence, the Constitution made Police as a state subject under entry 2 in the state list. However, after independence, Indian Police rank were diluted and assigned to the states instead of Centre. On the other hand, the Union government is free to establish any force as it thinks fit.
