On behalf of Bally Sports and the Minnesota Wild, we are honored to announce that Hockey Day Minnesota will officially be making its way to Shakopee in 2025. This exciting announcement took place during this year’s Hockey Day Minnesota event in White Bear Lake.

Although this event revolves primarily around the game of hockey it’s a great opportunity for our entire community. This event will show off the unique and diverse culture of Shakopee by involving various groups from across the city. We want to emphasize the importance of support from the entire community as it will help support local businesses and put Shakopee in the spotlight.Like we mentioned before there are still many unknowns about this event. We are still actively working on finding a venue that meets the requirements set in place by the Minnesota Wild and Bally Sports North and that supports our community’s best interests and needs. We currently have multiple site venues in mind that are pending approval from the Minnesota Wild. There are a few key things we need to consider when selecting a site venue such as;

Game matchups are determined by the Minnesota Wild, Bally Sports North, and Minnesota Hockey. The HDM Board can provide input and make recommendations. The official invitations to hockey teams will be made by the Minnesota Wild and are announced to the public approximately six months prior to the event.Hockey Day Minnesota is an event put on each year to celebrate the game that made Minnesota “The State of Hockey”. It was originated in 2007 by the Minnesota Wild alongside partners like Bally Sports, Minnesota Hockey, and the proud local communities that serve as the host each year.

To start, The HDM Board Members assembled a list of frequently asked questions. Although there are still a lot of unknowns in this event we want to make sure we are keeping everyone engaged and informed so we can tackle this event together as a community. The HDM Board is the local planning team who are responsible for cultivating a Hockey Day Minnesota experience that is unique to the host community while highlighting the sport of hockey in a way that honors traditions and showcases how hockey can impact lives locally, statewide, and beyond. There are some base requirements that must be met, and the Board works very closely with the Minnesota Wild and Bally Sports North to ensure we remain in alignment as planning gets underway. The Board will be in constant contact with public officials and the entire community to make sure this event runs smoothly.Currently, we are working alongside the Minnesota Wild to create a unique logo for Hockey Day Minnesota Shakopee 2025 as soon as possible. Once that logo become available we can offer merchandise for sale. Note that we cannot use the trademarked HDM logo created by the Minnesota Wild which is why merchandise will not be on sale right away. With the support of the Minnesota Wild and Bally Sports North, we were able to announce early so that we could plan openly and start to establish relationships with key vendors and suppliers, secure sponsorships, create needed infrastructure and get the community involved and excited! We are grateful to the Minnesota Wild and Bally Sports North to see the benefits of early announcements. We are looking to take advantage of this opportunity immediately to ensure nothing is left out.

Due to the sheer magnitude and size of this event, it’s going to take an entire community working together to make it happen. The Board is actively trying to seek support from a large number of sponsors and volunteers from the surrounding areas to help with the efforts. Warroad’s festivities will be part of a day-long television event broadcast on Bally Sports North, designed as a celebration of the game from peewees to pros. SAINT PAUL, Minn. – Bally Sports North, in conjunction with the National Hockey League’s Minnesota Wild, Minnesota Hockey and the Warroad Local Organizing Committee, today announced the date and schedule for the 18th Annual Hockey Day Minnesota (HDM), presented by UnitedHealthcare. Warroad Athletic Complex will serve as the venue for the 18th annual statewide hockey celebration on Saturday, January 27.

“Together with Upper Deck, fans can experience the fun of opening a pack of NHL trading cards,” NHL group vice president of consumer products Dave McCarthy said. “We hope everyone gets out and discovers the great players that play in the National Hockey League through their free trading card pack on National Hockey Card Day.”

There are also a number of retail shops that will be participating in National Hockey Card Day, offering free nine-card sheets of NHL players, with five total sheets to collect. “Retailers often say that NHCD is their single biggest sales day of the year, as well as the day where they see the most new faces come through the door,” Phillips said. “And that is the cornerstone of NHCD; introducing new collectors to this great hobby, and hopefully turning them into collectors for life.” The program, launched in 2009 in Canada and in 2012 in the United States, will take place days before the start of the 2023 Stanley Cup Playoffs, the most exciting time of year for hockey fans.

“There is no better trading card promotion in our industry than National Hockey Card Day,” said Wayne Wagner of Wayne’s Sports Cards & Collectibles in Edmonton. “For the past 12 plus years this program has continued to bring success not only to our shop but the overall experience it provides to collectors. We see many new collectors come into our shop hearing about the cards, the day and the fun it brings. … Tell me a single collector who does not enjoy a free pack of hockey trading cards.”

“Our whole town, our youth program actually, sponsored fan buses to leave when we leave on Saturday morning and we’re going to go over as a community,” said Stillwater head coach Annie Cashman.WHITE BEAR LAKE, Minn. — Hockey Day Minnesota begins Thursday and Polar Lakes Park in White Bear Lake is almost ready for the weekend of festivities — and of course, plenty of hockey.

“Getting to be a part of the (Hockey Day Minnesota) event is an honor and I know our team is very excited about it,” said Forest Lake girl’s hockey head coach Andrew Richardson. “The rink looks really cool and just having an opportunity to play outside and be a part of something is a cool feeling.”The Minnesota Wild will then cap-off the main event on Saturday as they face-off against the Buffalo Sabres at the Xcel Energy Center in St. Paul at 8 p.m.

As for the weather, it certainly won’t be as cold as Bemidji’s year in 2019 when it was 26 below for Hockey Day Minnesota. On Thursday in White Bear Lake, the high will be 15 under partly cloudy skies with westerly winds at 7 mph. On Friday, it’ll be a bit windier with cloudy skies and a high of 29. On Saturday, temps under a mostly cloudy sky will drop to 8 for a high with a light wind.

The 18th edition of Hockey Day Minnesota is headed to Hockeytown, USA (Warroad, MN) next year and now we know which schools will be participating in the annual event.Festivities at the Warroad Athletic Complex will start Jan. 27, 2024 with a 9:30 a.m. puck drop between the defending Class A girls champion Warroad against Lakeville North.”It means the world,” Olimb said. “It’s a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. MIAC hockey is great hockey but I think a lot of people don’t necessarily understand how good it is and I think it’s a great opportunity for it to be put on display.”The statewide event put on since its first year in Baudette in 2007 will come to its northernmost location yet on Saturday, Jan. 27 when sub-zero temperatures are the norm overnight in Hockeytown USA.”They’re excited to be a part of it,” said Moorhead assistant coach Derek Thompson said of the matchup for Hockey Day. “Every year it seems to get bigger and bigger.””Any Warroad-Roseau game is special and now to put it on the stage like this for Hockey Day it’s just one more page in the book for the Warroad-Roseau rivalry,” said Warroad boys head coach Jay Hardwick.For Concordia and St. Olaf, this will be the second time teams from the MIAC have joined in the Hockey Day Minnesota festivities. St. John’s beat Augsburg 5-4 in a wild overtime game outside in White Bear last season. It’s a revenge game for Concordia, which fell to the Oles, 4-3, in the first round of the MIAC playoffs last season.”We’ve got so much hockey history up here collectively,” she said. “Those are the kinds of stories that we hope to tell, not only about hockey, but also what makes these towns so special.”

On the girls side, Lakeville North fell 10-0 to Warroad last season in the Warriors’ holiday tournament. Warroad junior defenseman Katy Comstock was an all-state performer last season.Roseau, a seven-time state champion, owns a 106-69-5 record against its neighbor 20 miles away, dominating Warroad in the 1950s through the 1970s before the Warriors began to even things out.There’s been previous talks about Warroad hosting Hockey Day, but the community didn’t have the infrastructure to do so until now, said Baumann, who noted the new Hampton Inn and casino expansion.

“Warroad is undergoing an amazing transformation right now. So there’s many reasons why now is the perfect time for Hockeytown USA to host Hockey Day Minnesota.”

The Warriors-Rams boys game is among three matchups set to take place at next winter’s outdoor event televised by Bally Sports North. The Warroad girls, who repeated as state Class A champions last season, will face Lakeville North. The rink will be built on the school’s football field, co-chairperson Brenda Baumann said. It was one of two locations, the other being closer to the lake. But logistically, having power, internet, the school and the arena nearby just made more sense. The four-time state champion Warroad boys, who went undefeated this past season until they suffered a 6-5 double overtime loss to Mahtomedi in the Class A state championship game, are led by Carson Pilgrim. The University of North Dakota commit scored 52 goals a season ago, the second-highest output in the state.WARROAD, Minn. — Warroad and Roseau, certainly the country’s most historic high school hockey rivalry, will take center stage next January when Hockey Day Minnesota comes to Warroad.
