The Chinese consumer is considered essential to every playbook in the global auto industry — including Ford, General Motors, Volkswagen, Honda, Toyota and Tesla.Contact Phoebe Wall Howard at 313-618-1034 or [email protected]. “We’re proud of the Lincoln China team,” Falotico said. “They’re #1 in the J.D. Power Customer Satisfaction Index in 2021. We booted out Audi, which had been the leader in China for 11 years.”Buyers snapped up the Lincoln Nautilus, Aviator and Corsair SUVs while at the same time being motivated by the concierge service provided with pickup and delivery of the luxury vehicles.

While the popularity of Lincoln has waned stateside, just as the Buick brand has for General Motors, both brands are growing stronger in Asia, and that’s an important bellwether. The big swing for Lincoln is especially notable, McCabe said. He pointed out that Lincoln built 120,000 vehicles in the U.S. in 2020 and just 45,000 in China.

“We monitor world affairs at all times,” Falotico said. “We continue to be in tune to the relationship between our governments. We believe they both know how important the auto industry is. … We’re always watching very closely.”
Chinese consumers want upscale sedans while Americans are moving away from sedans, he said. “Edsel Ford put his finger to the wind … throughout Lincoln history. He predicted the need to build cars that match consumer wants and needs. We’re seeing it played out in China now.”

While the world watches China again lock down parts of the country in response to a resurgence of COVID-19 infections in recent days, GM has confirmed workers are sleeping on the floor to keep plants running in Shanghai.

Ford archivist Ted Ryan, who tracks company history and documents its global heritage, said the evolution of the Lincoln brand is “matching up harmoniously with the evolution of the Chinese market.”
Audi and Porsche placed second and third in the highly respected third-party evaluation for luxury brands. Buick and GAC Honda tied for highest ranking among mass market brands.”Ford saw Lincoln was taking off and reappropriated production accordingly,” he said. “If you look at Corsair from a production standpoint alone, in China it was 51,500 in 2021 and 20,800 in North America — more than double. Buick won’t be caught. Lincoln is selling one-tenth of the Buick brand. It’s the foreign brand high-ranking government officials were driving in China.” Building locally — in the cities of Chongqing and Hangzhou with the help of joint ventures — and selling locally brings the price down because it strips away import fees. Lincoln still exports Navigator from its plant in Louisville, Kentucky. Order banks in China were popular before the pandemic, which in the U.S. inspired more direct orders from buyers for vehicles. Chinese buyers order directly and get the vehicle delivered by a dealer.

“With the momentum they’ve got from China and growth here, it makes sense for Ford to continue investing in Lincoln as a brand going forward,” he said.
“But Lincoln is trying to make their mark. And it’s a significant increase,” McCabe said. “They need a rebirth. You don’t see a lot of youth buying Lincoln in the U.S.”

Is Lincoln more reliable than Lexus?
Lexus remains an outstanding choice when it comes to dependability with a score of 159 PP100. This is a full 33 problems per 100 vehicles lower than the industry average of 192 PP100. Compared to the Lincoln score of 180 PP100, Lexus is the clear winner in terms of dependability.
“Every automaker needs to be successful in China because it’s the largest auto market in the world by almost double,” market analyst Jon Gabrielsen told the Free Press. “People outside the industry have no idea. For automakers, China is a must-succeed market. If you aren’t successful in China, you’re opting out of nearly half the global auto market.”

Meanwhile, Ford is continuing its operations unaffected because employees in Shanghai are working from home and its factories are all located in other parts of the country.China is providing a “huge boost” for the Lincoln brand, which has been struggling, Sam Abuelsamid, principal analyst at Guidehouse Insights, told the Free Press.

The average car buyer in China is in their 30s, and so brands must focus on that demographic and win it. The heritage of Lincoln has strong appeal, as well as the social media campaigns that engage potential and current buyers, Falotico said.

The belief that a car could be more than just transportation was foundational to the rise of Lincoln. On Feb. 4, 1922, Henry Ford, with encouragement from his wife Clara and his son Edsel Ford, purchased The Lincoln Motor Company from distinguished inventor and automotive engineer Henry Leland for $8 million. The transaction set in motion the creation of an iconic American luxury brand.

In 1936 the company introduced the Lincoln Zephyr, the brand’s first mid-priced vehicle that featured a streamlined design and an “alligator”-type hood. In 1939 the Lincoln Continental debuted as a personal-use vehicle, becoming an instant design classic and quickly establishing the personal luxury car segment in America. The brand continues to build on its portfolio of effortless services such as offering standard Pickup & Delivery, Lincoln Showcase virtual walkarounds and remote sales delivery, while piloting new services that give back what clients value most – their time. A new Mobile Vehicle Spa pilot in Houston provides clients with a convenient way to get their vehicle detailed on their terms.

Through the years, Lincoln has pioneered multiple new features and innovations, and continues to introduce advancements today. A few more notable moments in its history include:In 1952 Edsel’s son, William Clay Ford, was appointed manager of special product operations, in charge of engineers and designers planning the Continental’s successor, the Lincoln Continental Mark II, considered by many one of the greatest cars ever built.

To mark the occasion, Lincoln is kicking off a yearlong series of global events connecting the past and the present to an exciting future in the years to come. Lincoln retailers are working to honor this milestone as well, with 100 stores hosting events with their clients and local communities throughout the year.
Lincoln is advancing the connected experience for clients in China, as Lincoln Way 2.0 introduces One ID – a digital tool offering seamless access to all the brand’s digital touchpoints in one step. In addition, Lincoln has opened the first Lincoln Way 2.0 Experience Center in China. This all-new center offers an immersive digital experience for the brand’s growing market.“We are at a defining moment in our history. We look back at Lincoln’s past and find inspiration for the future and, to reflect on what we have accomplished – maintaining a balance between the brand’s core values and redefining our vehicle and experiences for the next generation of luxury clients,” says Joy Falotico, president, Lincoln. “The timing of our 100 anniversary couldn’t be more ideal as we shift to an electrified future, and I look forward to shepherding the brand into the next 100 years.”

Lincoln has seen success in China with localized production of vehicles such as the Corsair, which achieved record full-year sales exceeding 50,000 units in 2021. Last fall Lincoln debuted its first locally produced sedan, the all-new Lincoln Zephyr, at Auto Guangzhou. With more than 3,100 pre-orders, the highly anticipated Zephyr is an example of the brand introducing American luxury to a new, younger generation of clients in China. And as the brand celebrates its 100th anniversary and storied past, it is equally focused on an exciting future. Lincoln is committed to delivering a unique lineup of electrified vehicles and connected services that create effortless experiences for its clients.

“With classic style, form and function that became the hallmark of the brand, there’s something very special about Lincoln,” said Jim Farley, president and CEO, Ford. “And as we move toward an electric future with connected technologies and always-on experiences, I am so excited to see where the brand will go in China and North America as it begins its second century.”
The introduction of the fourth-generation Navigator in 2018 was instrumental to an upturn in the direction of the brand. A combination of modern luxury and innovative technology, including the debut of 30-Way Perfect Position Seats in the all-new flagship SUV, elevated first-class travel for families, kicking off a resurgence that Lincoln continues to advance today.

The momentum continues with the introduction of new products and services. This year will see the launch of a new Navigator, elevating the brand’s sanctuary again with signature new features, including ActiveGlide hands-free driver-assist technology.Lexus remains an outstanding choice when it comes to dependability with a score of 159 PP100. It left no skid marks at the scene. The impact tore the entire front left-wheel assembly off my Lexus, sending it more than 250 yards away, and spun the vehicle into the truck, crushing the rear. Which country owns Lincoln?
Lincoln is an American luxury automobile brand, operated under the Ford Motor Company. Founded in 1917 by Henry M. Leland and acquired by Ford in 1922, Lincoln has been manufacturing vehicles intended for the upscale markets since the 1920s.
“If you start the process too late, and then there’s delays, you’re stuck and in a bad place,” said Poulos, who is general manager of West Point Lincoln in Houston. “I do think there’s some thoughtfulness that’s gone into the timing. It does seem like it’s early, but I also can understand what the pitfalls would be if they don’t start early.”To inform and empower current and future business leaders by providing the insights, knowledge and connections they need to thrive in a rapidly changing industry. While much of the cost is expected to go toward charging infrastructure, Hay said the certification program also includes necessary training for dealership employees. DETROIT — Nearly 60 percent of Lincoln’s U.S. retail network has signed up to sell electric vehicles, opting into a certification program that requires them to invest up to $900,000 on charging infrastructure.”Lincoln put a lot of time into trying to get this right,” he said. “We don’t have a lot of opportunities to have misses. The brand needs to make sure that when this happens, it’s done well.””As a West Coast dealer, I see this as the price of entry,” he said. “I don’t know how you could be successful in the retail environment we find ourselves in in California without being in the EV business.” Joe Hay, president of Jim Burke Ford-Lincoln in Bakersfield, Calif., said opting into the Lincoln program was a “logical decision” for his store. He also enrolled in the top tier of Ford’s program, which requires an investment of as much as $1.2 million. Lincoln does not sell any EVs but has promised to launch three globally by 2025 and add a fourth in 2026. Executives say they expect almost 90 percent of Lincoln’s volume in North America to be electric by 2030.

The 356 dealers who agreed to meet the program’s requirements represent 88 percent of the brand’s sales volume, Lincoln said. About 90 percent of the dealers who signed up are located in the nation’s top 130 luxury markets. Lincoln has about 600 U.S. dealers in total. “This gives Lincoln a robust network of retailers who have agreed to take the necessary steps to prepare for our brand’s transition towards electrification and better serve our future EV clients,” a spokeswoman for the brand said in a statement. “The ensuing two years we have gives us the time necessary not just to get the infrastructure right, but to get our teams trained, educated and ready to speak EV fluently,” Hay said. “A lot of the people we’re hoping to get to look at a Lincoln EV probably have owned Teslas and are looking for something different, new and exciting. They’re experienced. We have to be able to really take the next two years to gain a lot of ground and talk intelligently about the future in a way we haven’t been doing today.” In August, Ford Motor Co. in Dearborn reported that it maintained its title as the best-selling car brand in the U.S. for the second month in row with total sales growing at a rate of 27.3 percent, compared to the industry’s monthly rate of 4.8 percent. Ford’s August sales for hybrids saw a 9 percent increase year-over-year. Ford’s hybrid truck sales lead the industry, with F-150 and Maverick hybrids totaling 47,091 trucks through August — up 87.6 percent over a year ago. The automaker has increased its total market share from last August by 2.4 percent, bringing it to its current level of 13.4 percent. Retail sales were up slightly more at 29.7 percent, while retail orders for Ford’s 2023 model year (MY) vehicles was up 41 percent compared to 2022 MY vehicles last year.“F-Series was America’s best-selling truck, best-selling hybrid truck and best-selling electric truck with F-150 Lightning in August. Ford’s overall electric vehicle portfolio expanded four-fold in August, while conquesting from competitors at a rate over 60 percent,” says Andrew Frick, vice president of sales, distribution, and trucks at Ford Blue.Ford’s F-Series was America’s best-selling truck in August, as well as the best-selling electric and hybrid truck. Ford F-Series sales expanded its lead, with 420,969 trucks sold through August.

“The all-new electric F-150 Lightning had its best month since launch, while sales of our gas engine lineup grew 25 percent, electric vehicles 307 percent, and hybrids achieved a new August sales record with 7,302 vehicles sold.”
Ford’s Bronco family, including Bronco Sport, saw August sales total 14,587 SUVs — up 54.7 percent over a year ago. With strong inventory flows, Explorer sales increased 125 percent. Sales of Ford’s newly redesigned Expedition increased 22 percent, while the Escape Hybrid saw sales increase 12.7 percent over last year.Lincoln SUV sales totaled 6,393 vehicles — up 24.9 percent over August last year. Meanwhile, the Lincoln Aviator also more than doubled sales on improved inventory flow with 1,731 SUVs sold.More than 75,000 customers have enrolled in Ford BlueCruise and Lincoln ActiveGlide — the company’s hands-free driving technology — up 13 percent from July, with more than 16 million hands-free miles accumulated.

They found the car I wanted and were willing to work with me on the price. The salesman and GM were fantastic to work with. I’m very pleased with my new car. The people working there show they really care about people. I never walk in without someone opening the door for me. My sales person, Fredrick Young, always greets me by name and a hug. He is my go to person for anything I need help with and even service that needs to be done. Have bought and/leased over 12 cars from Bayway ; the complete process has been effortless especially dealing with Fred Hoyer; My wife and I want to congratulate and recognize Fred on his continued success

Where are the most Lincolns sold?
Lincoln saw its best global sales in 21 years with nearly 193,000 vehicles last year. Of that, Lincoln sold 91,000 vehicles in China — 10% more than the 83,000 sold in the U.S. and Canada combined.
The crappy thing about this whole experience is that I really wanted this vehicle and that I was willing to pay full ask internet price. I dont understand why some dealerships would risk their reputation on trickery. Integrity and honesty is lost. 😕

This is my 4th Leased vehicle from Bayway, prior to this, I bought a vehicle with Bayway. I have always had 5* service here. I did not rate the home delivery question, because I picked car up at the dealership.I didn?t see Matthew in a Navigator, but I did get excellent service for purchasing a used Jeep. They were super nice and didn?t leave us waiting. No pressure, just a fantastic experience!

Always excellent service, I typically wait at the dealership and they get the job done in the time that they estimated. Done correctly the first time! Thank you Marcus for being professional and friendly plus detecting the problem and addressing it properly. I hope my next car comes from West Point Lincoln!
Abby or Steve provided outstanding customer care. My experience was very positive. I wish I could give higher than 5 star rating! I would definitely recommend West Point Lincoln to anyone looking for a used vehicleBy clicking here, you authorize Cars.com and its sellers/partners to contact you by text/calls which may include marketing and be by autodialer. As a long-distance buyer, I was over the moon to receive outstanding customer service from start to finish. Beginning with sales rep Michael Cook to the drivers who transported my car to my location, everything was done professionally, courteously, and with tremendous attention to detail and communication. The car I bought arrived in perfect condition exactly as shown and described on the website. I highly recommend this dealership and I would contact Michael again if I were searching for another vehicle. Broght car in because was having difficulty starting it the past 3 days. After relating my dilemma to Marcus, my service advisor, he stated it was probably the battery. After a short wait, I was informed that my car was ready. I didn’t realize the battery was still under warranty and they replaced it at no cost. My kudos to the BEST service team at West Point Lincoln!! I continue to be impressed by West Point Lincoln as a company. I especially respect the service department. I’ve said this before, and I repeat, they keep my 2011 MKS running like new…year after year!

I brought my car in for a part replacement and to have some routine service. My service advisor Brett Sorensen was helpful, efficient, and understanding. He kept me informed, and understanding the time crunch I was in had everything ready to go both when I dropped off my car and when I picked it up. Derrick was also expedient in helping me when Brett was indisposed and I also have to give kudos to the consierge lady and to the service techs who made sure everything was done right.
West Point Lincoln is a very clean and professional dealership. Make sure to ask for Ms Dalia. She has a friendly smile and your best interest at heart. She’s a very special lady. Ms Dalia made sure I understood the process and answered all of my questions with integrity. Please ask for her by name if you want a great deal. Brown G. A very satisfied customer!Excellent, timely service. Accurate diagnosis of door locking issue. Replaced car battery, changed oil, rotated tires and completed complete engine diagnosis service. Provided transportation to and from dealership.

The service for repair was satisfactory. However when I got in my car it smelled like someone left their musky smelly socks it was awful. I have any had that experience.

The Aviator offers so much more as standard equipment – including features you can’t buy on the Mercedes-Benz at any price. Let’s look at those numbers – and what they mean – more closely.
