Deep Tissue is a generic term used to target the deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. The massage therapist uses different techniques – such as slower strokes or friction across the grain of the muscle. In laymen’s term, the therapist is trying to break the stuck-together muscle fibers that interferes with your movement. Deep Tissue is not the same as deep pressure(refers to level of pressure). Deep tissue massage is used for repetitive strain, posture problems, chronically tight muscles, recovery from injury. People often may feel sore for one to two days after deep tissue massage.
Trigger point is that hyper-irritable area in a muscle that often feels like knobby hard spot or taut band. When applying pressure on trigger points, a person feels pain or sensation somewhere else. Trigger points refer weakness or pain to other areas of muscle tissue. Compression pumping pressure is applied to trigger points to flushes out toxins to relieve tensions. Trigger point massage therapy is used to treat painful trigger points that cause referred pain. Please note the muscles involve may have taken a long time to be in that condition, and it will likely take more therapy to treat it. Communicate to your massage therapist about discomfort or pain you may experience when the TP technique is used because the technique can be uncomfortable. For example, trigger point in trapezius muscle can cause headaches or the trigger point in your abdominal muscles can cause low back ache and pain. TP therapy can be used to relieve muscle tension in sports injuries, back pain, frozen shoulder, sciatica syndrome, shin splints, neck stiffness and more.Application of tailored-made massage techniques that may combine different elements of Swedish, Trigger Point therapy in combo with Shiatsu and stretching targeting the specific goal of the athlete.
