A casualty of area over screening, the Plantation Theatre soon became a discount house. If I remember correctly, the parking lot entrance was right on 441 and the front looked a little like Loews Bay Harbor, which was built by the same original owner. Opened January 29, 1965. Single screen theatre designed for roadshow engagements that rarely ever materialised. The ladies restrooms had sinks in each cubicle, a feature I have only since seen at the Ziegfeld Theatre in New York. (I could be wrong about that. But at least I’m in the right place for the address. The Google map pin on this page is completely wrong. It’s the 3rd or 4th such error I’ve spotted in the past few days, and I’m not even looking for them.)The Plantation Theater is still there. It’s connected to a larger, two-story glass building. I looked it up on Google Maps, and I recognized the front of the theater right away.Kitty Hawk Kites has remodeled and opened its new doors directly on the Beaufort waterfront. Capturing the imagination of the art world—with glowing reviews, global publicity, and tickets sold out through the entirety of its run—the Rijksmuseum’s Vermeer retrospective is nothing short of an historic event. Suzanne Raes’s film follows curators, conservators, collectors, and experts in their joint mission to shine a new light on the elusive Dutch Master. This fascinating documentary reveals everything from the quiet diplomacy required to get the Vermeers to the Netherlands and the new technical knowledge gained by scanning the paintings layer by layer, to the shocking news that one work may not be by Vermeer after all. In the process, we discover how Vermeer was able to depict reality so differently from his contemporaries. But above all, Close to Vermeer shows the infectious love Vermeer’s art inspires. As one curator lovingly puts it: “A good exhibition should change your view of the world. Vermeer can really do that.”
In the spring of 2023, the Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam opened its doors to the largest Vermeer exhibition in history. The show sold out within days of going on sale. This film offers you the chance to experience the exhibition of the century on the big screen.

“So this movie theater does what it’s supposed to do, in a sense where it’s not full of kids and it’s a very quiet. It’s a good place for anyone who wants to go see a movie and I have to worry about screaming children. I honestly think the location helps because it’s behind the back roads. But we were able to have a great time with the recliner seats. The reason for the 4 stars is because they didn’t have nachos. A key movie theater snack. They do have a bar with 1-2 tvs To watch any game while you wait for your movie.”“Not the best, but not the worst. Overpriced but most movie theaters are nowadays. The theater is not updated but the staff is usually friendly! I don’t go to…” more
