It seems like some of these have been on forever. Olivia Benson is practically a member of the family at this point! Others have unfortunately been cancelled (justice for CSI and Criminal Minds!!!) but still shouldn’t be overlooked when you’re on the hunt for something to watch on a rainy Saturday.

Meet Joe Goldberg: an avid reader, a true romantic, and, yes, a serial killer. Prepare to be as obsessed with this addictive Netflix thriller as Joe is with his love interests—or should we say victims? Are you a fan of both murder mysteries and period pieces? Then you’re sure to love this Canadian drama about William Murdoch, a police detective solving murder cases in Toronto, Ontario in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. When relatively healthy patients start to die in a Danish hospital, one nurse grows suspicious that another might be behind it all. This Netflix thriller is based on horrifying true events that unfolded between 2012 and 2015. Serial killer Paul Spector (Jamie Dornan) has been one step ahead of the police for some time—but it looks like he’s finally met his match in Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson (Gillian Anderson). If there’s a seemingly uncrackable cold case in London, DCI Cassie Stuart (Nicola Walker) and DI Sunny Khan (Sanjeev Bhaskar) are on the job. Each of the five seasons in this critically acclaimed series revolves around a new murder mystery.

There’s a surprising amount of variety here, too. Some series like NCIS and Blue Bloods are procedurals where they catch a culprit in every episode. Others like True Detective follow one specific case for an entire season, and will leave you tossing and turning as you consider all the possible theories. And there’s no shortage of character studies about troubled detectives solving small-town murders on this list (hi, Mare of Easttown, Happy Valley, and Broadchurch).
We love a good police procedural, and this one based on real-life LAPD officer William Norcross is no exception. Nathan Fillion stars as 40-something officer John Nolan, who becomes the oldest rookie at the Los Angeles Police Department.

Come to crack the criminal cases, stay for the Reagan family dinners made famous by Donnie Wahlberg, Bridget Moynahan, Will Estes, and the man, the myth, the mustache, Tom Selleck.

There’s nothing “happy” about this award-winning series that centers on a strong-willed police sergeant seeking justice for her late daughter. But what it lacks in sunniness it makes up for in suspense, dark humor, and a spectacular performance from star Sarah Lancashire.

Kate Winslet’s spellbinding performance (not to mention her mastery of the Philly accent) made this story about a troubled detective investigating the murder of a young woman in a small town must-watch TV.
This Masterpiece series based on the bestselling book of the same name follows a mystery book editor turned amateur sleuth who gets drawn into a real-life murder.A day at beach turns fatal when a young mother, Cora (Jessica Biel), attacks another beachgoer for no apparent reason. Detective Harry Ambrose (Bill Pullman)s slowly unravels Cora’s story, ultimately uncovering the shocking reason behind her crime.

Did Castle end abruptly?
Castle was decidedly a success for ABC when it premiered in 2009. However, much changed over seven years and eight seasons. Slipping ratings and behind-the-scenes politics led to it coming to an abrupt close, though it wouldn’t be the last procedural to fall victim to off-set drama.

Whether it’s catching up on the latest true crime podcast, or re-watching the best ’80s movies for the zillionth time, she’s always here to talk about anything and everything relating to pop culture.

What is better a Castle of bone than of stone?
It derives from another proverb: “better a castle of bones than of stones.” Put simply, this means that a castle built on the success of a strong army is better than one built without it.
This compelling cop show based on the Danish television series Forbrydelsen follows homicide detectives Sarah Linden (Mireille Enos) and Stephen Holder (Joel Kinnaman) as they try to solve the murder of a teenage girl, among other crimes.Inspired by true events, this heartbreaking Netflix miniseries tells the story of a young woman charged with lying about rape, and two female detectives determined to prove she was telling the truth.

This slow-burning British mystery series about two detectives investigating the murder of an 11-year-old boy will keep you guessing until the last episode. Over the course of three acclaimed seasons, Broadchurch set the new standard for police procedurals.

Season 2 of the true crime anthology series Dirty John tells the story of Betty Broderick, a San Diego socialite who killed her ex-husband and his new wife in 1989. Amanda Peet’s nuanced performance as a woman scorned will leave you reeling.
If you’re looking for shows like Castle that will keep you busy for a while, this 6-season-long crime drama is just what you need. In this show, FBI special agent Peter Burke asks Neal Caffrey, a skilled con artist, to be his informant. Both the leads are phenomenal, and the writing is crisp, making it a treat for crime fans.

How would you feel if you could vividly remember every experience, interaction, and conversation you’ve ever had? Our protagonist, Carrie Wells, has that exact medical condition in this series. Thanks to her ‘powers,’ she’s able to solve a lot of challenging cases. But with every boon come complications, and our protagonist struggles to deal with the memory of her complicated past.
There’s no denying that Castle was the whole package. It has crime, mystery, drama, and incredible chemistry between Castle and Beckett. The show instantly became a hit and ran for eight long, successful seasons. Sometimes I’d get baked and try to solve the mysteries with them! So if you’re like me and love watching crime television stoned, here’s a list of shows like Castle you can watch after toking your pipe.

In Castle, law enforcement sought out the help of a crime novelist to help them solve murders. In NUMB3RS, an FBI agent named Don Eppes seeks out the help of his brother, a mathematics professor. If you want more shows like Castle with similarly strong female leads, you’ll love this gripping mini-series. It follows a teenage girl trying to convince authorities she was sexually assaulted. However, the police refuse to believe her. When two female detectives decide to take matters into their own hands, they discover they have a serial rapist on the loose. The duo will do everything they can to catch him before he gets to his next victim. If you’re looking for shows like Castle but with an intense plotline, give True Detective a try. It’s an anthology and every season follows a different detective in a small town trying to solve a sinister, eerie crime. This show brags a strong cast, including massive talents like Matthew McConaughey, Woody Harrelson, Mahershala Ali, and Colin Farrell. I liked the first season the best, but they’re all worth a watch if you’re in the mood for a good mystery.Lie To Me is one of those shows like Castle that don’t only have a great storyline but strong leads as well. Tim Roth is a brilliant actor, and in this series, he plays Dr. Cal Lightman, a human lie detector. He reads people’s body language, making it impossible to lie to him. This makes him a powerful asset to law enforcement. However, his talent also makes him an excellent liar and could be dangerous if he ends up on the wrong side of the law. There have been plenty of adaptations of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle’s famous series, but this modern take is probably one of the best. Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman do a great job playing the obnoxious genius detective and his loyal sidekick. Andrew Scott plays the perfect anti-hero in his role as Moriarty. If half the reason you watched Castle is Nathan Fillion, you’re in for a treat with this series. In this show, he plays John Nolan, a man who experiences an unreal adrenaline rush after being in a bank robbery. To chase that feeling, Nathan decides to join the police academy. But whether he has what it takes to survive in the industry is a different story. If you’re looking for shows similar to Castle on this list, it doesn’t get closer than this.

Patrick Jane has a unique gift. Whenever he interacts with someone, he observes every single detail about them. This is what makes him such a great psychic. One of the best things about Castle was the chemistry between the two leads. In this series, the two main characters share a similar dynamic. Dr Temperance ‘Bones’ Brennan is a forensic anthropologist. Along with her team, she helps Special Agent Seeley Booth solve murder investigations where the victims’ bodies are too damaged or decomposed for traditional identification methods to work.
For fans of Castle looking for good movie recommendations, The Heat is an excellent film that follows an uptight FBI agent and a hot-headed cop. This is the episode where Patrick Jane reduces his list of suspects of the identity of Red John to only seven names, and this moment in the show officially announces the last stage of Jane’s hunt for Red John.

This critically acclaimed science fiction crime drama is considered one of the best science-fiction series ever broadcast. Its premise is quite interesting – it follows a mysterious reclusive billionaire computer programmer Harold Finch, who created a computer program for the federal government known as “the Machine”, which is collecting all information to predict terrorist attacks and identify the people who are planning them.

He manages to close that part of his life and just move on, and finally, we see development in another part of Jane’s life that we subtly saw during the series – his love life.
Because of their longevity, both shows did suffer a bit from repetitiveness, and “plot fatigue”. This was a common thing during the 2000s when criminal shows relied on the same TV formula that mostly consisted of episode long arcs of main characters solving the case in one episode and huge arcs, like the one we had in the Mentalist with Red John, being put in the background until it became relevant again. This list will include every show we think has similarities with The Mentalist and also analyze other themes of the shows that maybe do not overlap with The Mentalist premise. If you are interested, stick with us until the end of the article.Seeing the best in others and being able to notice their true colors were Jaskier’s skills Radovid loved in him the most. The episode jumps back six hours earlier when it shows that everything started with the murder of an antique dealer found dead in a museum that indicating the suspect may be a member of the CBI.In the third season of ‘The Witcher,’ it is confirmed that Jaskier is bisexual. Even though he was always considered a ‘ladies man,’ he unexpectedly fell in love with Radovid, King Vizimir’s younger brother. The chemistry between Jaskier and Radovid has been going on for some time, and the two of them eventually kiss when Radovid decides to come forward and admits his feelings to a surprised bard.

Notorious serial killer Red John strikes again, and this one hits close to home for Jane, who starts getting reminded of his old life. The baby of the victim was kidnapped and Red John leaves his phone number by writing his number on the wall near a bloody smiley face. Jane and Lisbon throw themselves into the investigation and find out that babies social worker’s husband is the main suspect in the kidnapping. This is the last episode of the huge Red John arc that has been a staple of the show for six seasons. Jane finally comes face-to-face with the serial killer but now without a few other twists that will rattle Jane even more. To understand the Red John arc, you can skip over the other episodes of the show and just follow the order we presented here. Red John’s episodes all have “blood” references in their title, so it is not hard to miss them. Those episodes have really important details about Red John that were paid off and propelled Jane’s and Lisbon’s investigations to the ultimate reveal in season six.

The Closer is a police procedural TV drama that aired in 2005 and 2012 for seven seasons. The story follows Brenda Leigh Johnson, a Los Angeles Police Department deputy chief, who was a former CIA-trained interrogator. Her reputation for finding out everything about the cases, solving it, and even obtaining the conviction of the criminals, gave her a name the closer.Throughout the show, Shawn and Gus are helping the PD with cases, and the whole “psychic” thing is irritating to members of the SBPD. One of them is Carlton “Lassie” Lassiter, who does not like Shawn at all, and their tension and bickering lead to mostly funny situations. Lassie is the only character in the show that does not believe Shawn has powers and in the end he proves correct. Other characters include Shawn’s strict father and ex-police officer Henry, Junior Detective Juliet O’Hara, who is Shawn’s first friend than a love interest, and Karen Vick, a Chief of the Santa Barbara Police Department.

In this episode, another serial killer, who is killing teenage girls, starts popping up all over California, and Jane and the CBI team need to do their best to uncover who the serial killer is. A character who is obsessed with the case is the main suspect.TNT’s detective drama Rizzoli & Isles follows the Boston Homicide detective Jane Rizzoli and Chief Medical Examiner Dr. Maura Isles, who are investigating and solving murders all over Massachusetts. The show was based on the series of Rizzoli & Isles novels by Tess Gerritsen, and the duo’s strikingly different personalities are the main point of the show.

These lessons often play a huge role in the plot of the episode, and usually set a ton of the episode. Everybody believes Shawn about his psychic skills except Lassie, which is a running gag of the show until its end.
Another murder occurs, this time in the vineyard. The team meets Sheriff Thomas McCallister at the scene who was the first responder. He meets Jane and is baffled about how can he be a consultant to the CBI. The CBI works with the Sheriff’s department on this case and combines their efforts to solve a murder.

The supporting cast is similar to The Mentalist and Lucifer’s origins from the DC comics can be definitely seen in the show. After three seasons, Lucifer was canceled on the Fox channel but picked up by Netflix for three more seasons, which were very popular amongst the fans. The charismatic lead and cool show premise will rule in any viewer to watch this fun show.
The Fall is a crime drama that had three seasons with in between 2013 and 2016. House is a critically acclaimed show that received many accolades including Emmy. House is not a crime drama like a mentalist, but a charismatic, troubled lead is something both House and The Mentalist are sharing.

Did Castle have an ending?
Castle and Beckett somehow survived their wounds (But how?), and they had three kids in seven years without impacting Beckett’s slender frame (But… well okay, that’s just television for ya.) If you’re a diehard fan of #Caskett, this ending was probably the most satisfying one they could have cooked up on short notice.
Cold Case is a police procedural drama that aired for seven seasons between 2003 and 2010 and follows Lilly Rush, a Philadelphia police detective working for the department’s homicide squad and assigned for the cold cases, that were committed in the past and never resolved. Rush, with her team, goes back to the people and crime scenes that were part of the cold cases and finally brings justice to the deceased, forgotten victims.Chuck is an action-comedy/spy-drama TV series that ran for five seasons on the NBC network, and since it first aired, gained a cult following. The story follows Chuck Bartowski an average computer-whiz-next-door, who after getting kicked out of Stanford and stuck in the dead-end job as a Buy More cashier, accidentally receives an email full of governments secrets sent to him by an old college buddy, who forced Chuck into the world of spies, secrets, and danger.

As Geralt, Yennefer, and Ciri were unsuccessful in finding a safe place for a long time, they realized there was no point in running anymore because the enemies would find them wherever they went. So, instead, they decided to use Ciri as bait to lure Rience to them. And for that, they also needed Jaskier’s help. However, King Vizimir’s people also needed him for a similar cause.
This witty, fun, and cool show was almost on the brink of cancelation after season two but fans intervened and the show stayed on the air for five full, completed seasons that made a lot of fans happy. If that is not a motivation to start watching this series, we don’t know what will.Even though season three does not have straightforward Red John appearances, this season provided us with so many moments that will determine the path of the investigation going forward. The third episode of the season sees Jane facing off with cult leader Brett Stiles. The cult leader reaches out to Jane to offer him the information about Red John and the location of recently missing Jane’s colleague – Kristina Frye.

Which show is better Bones or Castle?
This one goes to Bones, hands down. Bones series finale was dramatic yet hopeful and left fans of this long time series smiling. The Castle series finale, on the other hand, left us with our favorite couple bleeding out on their kitchen floor.
The premise of the show is quite interesting since it presents Charlie who uses mathematics formulas and theories to make sense of the crimes and FBI agent Don who helps in the investigation with his experience. Usually their father Alan is also helping them and Charlie’s colleagues Larry and Amita. Cool premise, a good show, and just all-around fun, which can be definitely connected to The Mentalist.

One of the most successful criminal drama franchises, NCIS is a spin-off of the other show that aired on CBS, Jag. NCIS has nineteen seasons with the twentieth on the way and is one of the longest today’s TV shows. NCIS has both military and procedural drama aspects in its genre, and throughout the years was one of the most watched crime dramas in the world.
Regardless of the similarities of the main characters, Psych and The Mentalist are so much different from each other. One is a comedy-detective show that most of the time relies on comedy and a few drama story arcs and the second one is a drama show with few quirky, comedic moments. You should definitely watch both of them because each of these two shows presents different styles and storylines that are special in their own way.The season four finale shows Jane’s fall from grace. The episode starts with a flash-forward of Jane breaking havoc in Las Vegas, while the team back in Sacramento is solving cases. After he failed once again in defeating Red John, Jane started drinking and gambling his love away in Sin City. He finds a lover, who is revealed to be an important link to the serial killer and Jane even shoots one of his own.

What should I watch after Bones and Castle?
Fringe.Evil.Lucifer.The Finder.Pushing Daisies.The X-Files.Psych.Castle.
However, one faithful day, Jane appeared on a television show and declared that he helped the police to find a serial killer Red John. That was not true at all, and the serial killer Red John decided to teach Patrick Jane a lesson – kill Jane’s wife and daughter. This was a turning point in his life, and Jane saw an opportunity to avenge his family by joining CBI and helping them catch the serial killer.Even when the show seems to be caught in the same old “repetitiveness” that we saw a lot in these shows, The Mentalist throws in something fresh in their storylines which eases that hurdle. Season six starts immediately after the season five finale, and Lisbon and Jane are sent to investigate the mysterious murder of a man who was missing for two years. The episode sets up the pacing for the rest of the season, and Red John is unhinged. Important people to Jane are attacked by a serial killer once again, and this time, Jane is afraid that history will repeat itself. We all know what CSI is – a procedural forensics crime drama television series that ran on CBS for fifteen years and provided us with successful spin-offs as well. The story follows a team of crime-scene investigators employed by the Las Vegas Police Department as they use physical evidence to solve murders.

The season two finale is, again, a nail-biter. Jane meets up with Kristina Frye, a fellow “psychic” and they go on a date. It is interrupted by another Red John murder, however, this time, by serial killers copycat. Kristina reaches out to Red John during a television interview which puts her and Jane in grave danger.

He actually finds Beckett inspirational and starts to shadow her for his new book. The show is one of the most popular criminal dramas of that era and its 8-season run proved its success with multiple awards it got. However, the ending of the show angered and confused a lot of fans, and the departure of Kate Beckett (Stana Katic) from the series at the end of the seventh season only added up to the disappointment. However, the show is worth watching – character dynamics, comedy, and seriousness of trying to find who killed Beckett’s mother, are also good reasons for you to start watching the show.
The show received various critical acclaim including Kyra Sedgwick getting Golden Globe and an Emmy Award for her role. Great show with a great premise and amazing supporting cast. Moreover, a great female-led-driven show that made a cultural impact on the future of television. Now we are getting to the peak of the Red John arc, and a game of cat and mouse escalates. Lisbon is safe after the attack, and Jane tries to reach his doctor Sophie Miller, who treated him after his nervous breakdown after the murder of his family. Major movements in the case occur and possible suspects from Jane’s list meet.BBC’s Sherlock is a crime drama that was released in form of the four three-part series from 2010 to 2017. The series is set in the present day and follows the story of John Watson, an army doctor who is wounded in Afghanistan, for which he comes back to London. He stumbles upon Sherlock Holmes, a brilliant but eccentric private detective. They join forces and solve mysterious, bizarre, and often baffling murder mysteries. The final suspects are in the room and before the episode ends, and Lisbon arrives at the location of the meeting, Jane’s old house, a huge explosion is detonated.

Even though season five moved away from Red John’s storyline, Jane and Lisbon actually spent the whole season making a list of seven prime suspects of being a notorious serial killer Red John. The Red John story arc escalates in season six when Lisbon and Jane start to investigate every suspect left on the list.Another procedural drama and detective TV show, Elementary is a great alternative to The Mentalist. Firstly criticized for “borrowing” the premise of the show from the BBC’s Sherlock, Elementary proved its originality with great characters, writing, and novel approach to the source material. The show follows the story of Holmes, a recovering drug addict and a former consultant of the Scotland Yard, who moves to the United States to assist the NYPD in solving crimes.

Criminal Minds is a police procedural crime drama created by Jeff Davies and aired for 15 seasons before its ending in 2020, however, a series revival is confirmed in 2021 so we can expect more Criminal Minds content. The show follows a group of FBI criminal profilers, who are flying all over the United States to solve the most difficult murders and catch serial killers. There are trying to investigate the evidence from the crime scenes, compose a profile and try to prevent another murder from happening.
The second episode of the season brings us huge developments in Red John’s case – Jane is not on the case anymore, and Special Agent Sam Bosco takes over the investigation of the notorious serial killer. However, that development still does not stop Jane to involve himself in the case which will put a strain on the relationship between him and Bosco. The show is completed, which is good news for those interested, and absolutely amazing. Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan bring the viewers masterful performances in The Fall, so if you haven’t checked it out yet, please do. The cat and mouse chase that occurs in the show is reminiscent of Jane’s hunt for Red John. This episode has few guest appearances. J.J. LaRoche is brought in to question a team about the demise of a person that was in custody at the CBI and investigates the possibility of being an inside job. Jane infiltrates the AA group to investigate the murder of a Santa, and some old characters come back to help in the investigation by Internal Affairs.

He is now a private detective and a consultant to the PD, and his battle with the obsessive-compulsive disorder while investigating murders is a really interesting premise of the show. Monk is mostly comedic with exploring serious issues like Monk’s already mentioned disorder. Charismatic lead with a great supporting cast – sign us up! The show also received critical acclaim and multiple Emmy awards.
Huge suspicion of the CBI mole is questioned in this episode and propellers the CBI member to be more cautious. This is directly connected to the Red John case because someone is leaking vital information from the Bureau to the serial killer.

Burn Notice has a really cool premise – it uses a second-person narrative with frequent voice-overs, that tell the story from two points of view. One PoV focuses on the reason why Westen was “burned” and disavowed, and the second one focuses on the cases he is currently working on. Critically acclaimed show with very good reception? Monk is an American mystery comedy-drama TV series that aired from 2002 to 2009. It has full, completed, eight seasons of the show which is good news for interests. The story follows Adrian Monk, a San Francisco Police Department Detective, who has a nervous breakdown after his wife is murdered. He loses his job and refuses to leave his home for several years until his assistant Sharona persuades him to go out. This is truly a chaotic episode with a lot of twists and turns, which actually make sense. We see for the first time a hint at Lisbon and Jane’s nature of their relationship, Red John once again showing he is two steps ahead of anyone, more RJ’s helpers going down and more moles hinted at in institutions of law. FBI agent Darcy asks for Jane’s help regarding one murder investigation. However, it is later revealed what is her true motivation – finding out about Jane’s and Red John’s relationship.Character from the previous season, Bret Stiles, the leader of the cult, helps Jane break out Lorelei Martins from the prison to help them find out Red John’s whereabouts. The team thinks that Lorelei kidnapped Jane, which he orchestrated to bring her back. CBI crew with Bob Kirkland of Homeland Security tries to track Jane by his phone. Lorelei doesn’t believe that Red John killed her sister and Jane tells her that she needs to find out about it by herself.

Is Castle or Bones better?
This one goes to Bones, hands down. Bones series finale was dramatic yet hopeful and left fans of this long time series smiling. The Castle series finale, on the other hand, left us with our favorite couple bleeding out on their kitchen floor. A tacked on 30 seconds of fluff was a poor substitue for a happy ending.
Cold Case was a really popular crime TV show in the world, and its premise of solving cold cases was really well received. We put it on this list because of the strong lead characters and a good supporting cast that “steers back the ship” if something goes wrong.Pierce gets his team and a hallucination that manifested as a consequence of his schizophrenia condition. Since his early days, he liked to stay-up late and watch all sorts of movies on TV, and waking up early so he wouldn’t miss any superhero cartoon that is about to air. If he would have to choose one TV show that had the greatest impact on him, it was probably Dr. House. As for the movies, he could watch Marvel movies all day, any day. Even though he thinks that their quality is slightly declining, they are always number one on Josip’s watchlist. Besides that, he likes movies that really get into his head in a way that he can’t stop think about them long after they are over. He remembers that Inception, Life of Pi, and Interstellar, among many others, made him feel that way. His favorite video game franchise is Prince of Persia. Josip likes to be informed about the things he writes about, and his writing style is mostly based on providing straightforward facts to the readers implementing his experience into articles. He tries to keep as objective as possible while writing, but that is not always possible, so his presence can be felt in the articles he writes in a minimum way, but enough for the readers to know that he nurtures consistent affection toward his creations and work. It also deals with the aftermath of Rizzoli’s kidnapping by the serial killer Charles Hoyt, who marked her for the rest of her life, which is similar to what happened to Patrick Jane in The Mentalist. Besides serious stuff, Rizzoli family dynamics, Boston PD shenanigans, and Dr. Isles being incredibly smart but bad at social cues of normal people are really funny and entertaining and should be on anyone’s watch list of people who like a good detective drama with comedic timing. It was also really gay, even though some people related to the show deny this (it really was). Great show and great performances by the cast of Scott & Bailey with investigating serial killers, make this show a great alternative to The Mentalist if you want a piece of British sarcasm and at the same time, the tension that makes every viewer bite their nails.Mary Kills People is a Canadian drama that aired for three seasons from 2017 to 2019. The story follows ER doctor, Mary Harris who is a normal doctor who saves lives during the day, but when the night falls, Mary turns her attention to a different practice – she kills people. More specifically, Mary with her partner kills terminally ill people who wished to do so and die on their own turns. Certain FBI agent is back in this episode and begins to doubt that the man that Jane killed in the season 3 finale, Timothy Carter, is Red John. In this episode, the team is trying to solve a murder of a disgraced fashion designer who was preparing for a big comeback. This action drama series is a bit different from the rest of the shows on this list. It follows the story of a five-person team: a thief, a hacker, a retrieval specialist, and a leader of the group Nathan Ford, who uses their skills to carry out heists to fight corporate injustices inflicted on ordinary citizens. The show has a cult following and for a good reason. The show received a cult following and Benedict Cumberbatch’s career kickstarted after this role. Sherlock was a critically acclaimed show throughout its run and received various awards.

The show was a success since its first episode and the scheme of the episodes the Psychs were going with was quite cool at the time. Most of the episodes would begin with a cold open in the form of flashbacks to Gus’s and Shawn’s childhood where Shawn’s father Henry would teach the two friends a valuable life lesson.

A prequel (good one Star Wars fans) episode that shows viewers how Patrick Jane got hired by CBI and met Lisbon and the rest of the team. This episode overshadows a few characters that will become important in future episodes.
Dexter is a crime drama that aired from 2006 to 2013 on the Showtime TV network. The story follows Dexter Morgan, a forensic technician specializing in bloodstain pattern analysis that he uses to deceive other people. More specifically, while investigating the murders with the homicide police division, Dexter hunts and kills murderers who have escaped the justice system.Bones and Booth are an ultimate team who at the beginning were impartial to each other but eventually developed feelings for one another. This dynamic is quite similar to Lisbon and Jane, and everything combined with the supporting crew both shows have, Bones is a must-watch show for fans of The Mentalist.

Is there a series 12 of Bones?
The twelfth and final season of the American television series Bones premiered on January 3, 2017, on Fox and concluded on March 28, 2017. The final season consists of 12 episodes and aired Tuesdays at 9:00 pm ET.
The question about Jaskier’s sexuality in the show has been in the air for some time, but it was never considered too important for the overall storyline. Third season of the show changes that, and we see Jaskier falling in love, perhaps for the first time in his flirtatious life. Let’s see in more detail what we know about it.One of the most similar shows to The Mentalist on this list, Castle truly epitomizes the crime dramas of the 2000s. This charming, serious, and at the same time, fun show follows Richard Castle, a millionaire playboy who recently killed off his main character in his successful book series. Murders start to occur all around New York with the same process as in his books and joins forces with New York police detective Kate Beckett to solve the case.

In this episode, the team investigates the murder of a reporter who may have come too close to her story while Jane wants to pursue Lorelei by his own leads. Characters from the fifth episode come into prominence once again and Jane and Lisbon need to find a way to stop the obvious leaking problem in both the FBI and CBI.
This is the first episode where we hear about Jane’s famous list of seven suspects potentially being Red John. He provides information to Lisbon and tells her that he remembered all 2164 with whom he shook hands after his family was killed and that there is no chance there are more suspects out of this list he gathered. The Mentalist brought us great storylines during its seven-season run but one stood out from the rest – The Red John arc. This storyline was determined from the very first episode, where we find out that Patrick Jane, because of his arrogant con man days, provoked Red John which resulted in his family getting killed by a notorious serial killer. The Red John arc ran for multiple seasons, and some viewers got interested in watching the episodes chronologically. In this article, we will list all Red John episodes chronologically and provide you with an explanation of every episode. Since Shawn is a supposed “psychic”, he makes fun of Patrick Jane character’s powers being fake and usually mentioned how his favorite show is, you guessed it, the Mentalist. This gag is funny, charming, and a reminder to the fans that Psych did it first. In this episode, Jane is contacted by imprisoned Jared Renfrew, who claims that he has information about Red John, which will be provided to him, if Jane helps him solve his case – Renfrew states that he is wrongly imprisoned. After the brutal case, Jane and the team uncover who killed a woman – it was Renfrew’s mother. The crew investigates the kidnapping of a couple that may be the victims of mistaken identity. Meanwhile, Jane is still investigating where Lorelei is located. The mole in the FBI that took away Lorelei is revealed and Jane’s investigation about Red John finally gains traction. Also, this next fact might be getting one point over The Mentalist because Psych has another running gag throughout the series – mentioning The Mentalist. Because Psych came out two years prior to the Mentalist, the latter definitely borrowed a few details from the Psych and made it into their own thing.

Meanwhile, CBI is trying to get an arrogant business owner to confess to the murder of Matilda Cruz. Jane sends wrong “signals” to the FBI, which might get him in trouble.

The show has all – a great plot, characters, charm, and just cool story premises that will not allow you to turn your eyes off the screen. We warmly recommend the show, and the similarities with The Mentalist only get Person of Interest bonus points.

Criminal TV shows were rolling nonstop on our screens during the 2000s. In the ocean of detective and criminal dramas, few of them stood out from the rest. One is Psych, a 2006 detective comedy-drama that follows a man named Shawn, a young crime consultant for the Santa Barbara Police Department whose “psychic” powers are used for solving crimes. The second one is The Mentalist, a 2008 American detective-drama series that follows Patrick Jane, a former “psychic” who is a consultant for the CBI, and with his “powers” trying to solve crimes. In this article, we will put these two shows against each other – so, Psych vs. The Mentalist. which show should you watch?
Bones is a crime procedural comedy-drama that ran for 12 seasons, and in that time became one of the most popular TV shows on TV. The story follows Dr. Temperance Brennan, a brilliant, but lonely anthropologist who is approached by FBI Special Agent Seely Booth, to help the Bureau solve a series of unresolved crimes by identifying victims based on a bone structure.

We will analyze this topic further by talking about each show’s premises, and some cool facts, and in the end, conclude this discussion with our opinion of which show should you watch and why. If you are interested, stick with us until the end of the article. Another science fiction crime series on this list is Fringe, a TV show created by J.J. Abrams. The story follows Olivia Dunham, Peter Bishop, and Walter Bishop, all members of the fictional Fringe Division of the FBI, based in Boston and supervised by Homeland Security. The team uses fringe science techniques related to the mysterious events related to the parallel universe. Even though at first sight it looks like Fringe is anything but similar to The Mentalist, the show does have procedural drama and serials aspects of it and is usually compared to the X-Files and others. At first a bit flat, but the more you watch, the more you get “sucked into” the mythology behind the parallel universe and alternate timelines. Fringe developed a cult following since its release and the characters and their dynamics in the show can easily compare to The Mentalist. Watch it, it is absolutely amazing.

This 2005 American supernatural drama was pretty popular in the 2000s and Patricia Arquette’s portrayal of Allison got her an Emmy Award for an Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama series. If you loved The Mentalist, this show will be a great option for another interesting detective drama.
On the anniversary of his family’s death, Jane’s will and motivation for investigating Red John starts to vain, and while he is contempalitng if he is going to continue to pursue Red John or not, his questionable methods of getting confessions out of murder suspects come back to hunt him.The CBI team investigates the murder of the young lead in the local theater who dies on the eve of the opening. Meanwhile, Jane hopes for more intel about Red John from Jason Lennon who is in a coma. The story follows a fictional team of special agents of the Major Case Response Team based in the Washington Navy Yard in Washington, led by Leroy Jethro Gibbs. The team usually investigates murders of the United States Navy and United States Marine Corps and their families. Gibbs, with his team, especially the first and the second versions – including DiNozzo, Ziva, McGee, Abby, and Ducky, really reminds us of The Mentalist team dynamics but with lighter themes until it becomes really serious. Cal studies facial expression, body language, and tone of voice to determine if a person is lying and why, which greatly helps law enforcement and government agencies. However, he is not a perfect man and uses his skills to deceive other people as well. The show has three seasons and was canceled due to low ratings. Being a FOX channel’s show, it does not surprise us at all – FOX canceled a lot of TV shows due to allegedly bad ratings even though they were critically acclaimed. Despite that, Tim Roth’s portrayal of Dr. Lightman and just the cool show’s premise should be enough for you to check out this show.Psych is a comedy and detective drama that is mostly running on gags of Gus and Shawn who are bouncing off the supporting cast pretty well, which does not mean the show is not serious – it can turn serious in a second. Lassie’s divorce and Juliet’s struggles with her family are one of the dozen serious themes that are presented in the show and are portrayed beautifully, emphasizing the struggles of the characters, even when they are not serious all the time. We will include every episode relevant to the Red John’s storyline, so prepare yourself for the ultimate guide of the Mentalist’s biggest story arcs to date. Beware, there are some spoilers included. Unfortunately, Lie to me did not have the same luck of ending properly as Elementary, and we are still sad about it. This cool show follows the story of the world’s leading deception researcher, Dr. Cal Lightman, whose character was inspired by Paul Ekman, a scientific consultant who consulted various police departments and anti-terrorist groups in his career.Jane eventually solves the case, and at the end of the episode, goes back to his house, and lays down under the Red John sign. In this episode, this is the first mention of Red John and his appearance – he was obscured and his identity hidden.

Is Bones similar to Castle?
Murder procedurals Castle and Bones both feature a cop and a best-selling author — or in Bones’ case an anthropologist-turned-novelist — in a partnership that oozes so much sexual tension it can only lead to one thing.
Jaskier was appointed to watch over Ciri while Geralt and Yennefer dealt with other problems elsewhere. Little did the bard know that one conversation with the Prince would change everything. When Ciri fell asleep, Jaskier heard a noise outside the house, and instead of finding an attacker, he encountered Radovid waiting for him in the house next door. While Jane is trying to determine if Lorelei does truly have connections to the Red John, The CBI team is forced to join up with the FBI to solve a murder of a hotel worker. Another huge episode for Red John’s storyline that turns out to be the catalyst of the investigation. Burn Notice is a show that aired from 2007 to 2013 on the USA Network, and has run for seven seasons. The story of the show follows Michael Westen, a seasoned U.S. spy who is disavowed by the government. He survives by doing impossible jobs for desperate people in Miami and takes over a job of a private investigator. Huge revelations are revealed and vast changes occur, which will change the lives of our characters forever. Jane uncovers newfound motivations for catching Red John and serial killers’ loose ends are revealed. A major character in the show dies, which opens up new plots and storylines for The Mentalist.
