What Is It? CBD oil for dogs is made of cannabidiol, which is extracted from the cannabis plant. CBD oil for dogs has become increasingly popular in recent years due to its health benefits and lack of side effects. It can be mixed with food or given as a treat, which makes it an attractive option for pet owners who are trying to find natural ways to help their dog fight pain or relax. What Is It? Freeze dried dog food is a shelf-stable and portable form of pet food that retains most of the nutrition in its original state. Once rehydrated or cooked, it can be fed to pets. Compared with traditional wet can foods, freeze dried dog food products typically have higher levels of protein, vitamins, minerals and other nutrients. They also contain fewer carbohydrates.
What Is It? The design of the bed makes it appear as a giant donut (insert your own Homer Simpson joke here). It also includes a hole at one end of the mattress for pets to enter and exit from. Donut beds are typically made from foam and covered with a soft fabric. Some even include pillows and toys to make your pet feel more at home.
What Is It? An automatic ball launcher is a tool for automating playing fetch (mainly for dogs, but can also be used for cats). It can keep pets entertained for hours at a time, especially when it comes with an added treat dispenser to really get them moving. Various launchers will shoot their balls in different directions and heights. What Is It? A dog calming bed is a simple tool that can be used for anxiety in dogs. By placing it on the floor, your pet will feel more relaxed and at ease because he knows his bed will always be within reach. The bed also features a familiar scent in the form of a doggy odor. Some dog calming beds are enclosed while others are open to allow for unrestricted access.
What industry is pet products in?
The pet industry (sometimes known as petconomy) is the market industry associated with companion animals. It includes things that are associated with the production, consumption and cultural activities linked to the market.
Another theme is the fact that humans are increasingly concerned about their pet’s nutrition. This is why they’re investing in relatively expensive products, like Pretty Litter and freeze dried pet food.
What is pet safe plastic?
Polypropylene is not only safer but it’s also less at risk of containing other contaminants which can be harmful to dogs and cats.
What Is It? A portable dog water bottle is designed for pet owners who are constantly on the go yet prioritize their dog’s health (and specifically their hydration). Bottles typically feature a durable stainless steel interior that locks in freshness without any BPA. Most brands also include an ice pack that will keep water cold for 24 hours anywhere outside of an air-conditioned environment so that you can always have access to cold drinking water for your pup. Bottles are usually also small enough to fit in virtually any bag, backpack or purse. What Is It? Slow feeder bowls are designed in way to reduce the speed that an animal eats. This is typically done by embedding food in crevasses (for wet food) or inside a bowl with shapes where the food can be removed with effort from the pet (for dry food).
What Is It? PrettyLitter is a type of cat litter that is made from silica. Although this is a specific brand of silica litter, there are many other pet startups launching premium kitty litter products. One common theme that ties many of these products together is a focus on comfort. Designer dog beds are becoming increasingly popular thanks to the growing trend of celebrity pet beds. What Is It? Dog vitamins are supplements that are given to dogs in order to help maintain or improve their overall health. Often, vitamins for dogs are prescribed by a veterinarian or other qualified healthcare professional. The type of vitamin that is given to a dog will depend on the animal’s age, size, activity level and health status. Dog vitamins are usually available in the form of chewable (flavored) tablets. What Is It? Pet fountains are essentially drinking fountains for pets. Unlike a traditional water bowl, pet fountains make water continually flow. Which is designed to encourage cats and dogs to drink more water. What Is It? A dewormer is a medication used to treat infestation with intestinal parasites (worms). There are two types of parasites that tend to infect dogs: roundworms and tapeworms. While they can be serious in puppies, most roundworm infections in adult dogs do not cause health problems. Tapeworms, on the other hand, can be a source of serious illness in both puppies and adult dogs.
The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulates pet food similar to that for other animal foods. The Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FD&C Act) requires that all animal foods, like human foods, be safe to eat, produced under sanitary conditions, contain no harmful substances, and be truthfully labeled. In addition, canned pet foods must be processed in conformance with the low acid canned food regulations to ensure the pet food is free of viable microorganisms, see Title 21 Code of Federal Regulations, Part 113 (21 CFR 113). For more information about low-acid canned foods, see Acidified & Low-Acid Canned Foods Guidance Documents & Regulatory Information.Pet food labeling is regulated at two levels. The current FDA regulations require proper identification of the product, net quantity statement, name, and place of business of the manufacturer or distributor, and proper listing of all the ingredients in the product from most to least, based on weight. Some states also enforce their own labeling regulations. Many of these regulations are based on a model provided by the Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO). For more information about AAFCO, please visit its website.
Are pet products FDA approved?
There is no requirement that pet food products have premarket approval by the FDA. However, the Federal Food, Drug, and Cosmetic Act (FFDCA) requires that pet foods, like human foods, be safe to eat, produced under sanitary conditions, contain no harmful substances, and be truthfully labeled.
CVM DOES NOT recommend one product over another or offer guidance on individual pet health issues that are normally provided by the pet’s veterinarian. Questions regarding your pets’ health and/or the specific use of any veterinary drug, pet food, or other product should always be referred to your veterinarian.FDA also reviews specific claims on pet food, such as “maintains urinary tract health,” “low magnesium,” and “hairball control.” Guidance for collecting data to make a urinary tract health claim is available in Guideline 55 on the CVM portion of the FDA internet site.
FDA ensures that the ingredients used in pet food are safe and have an appropriate function in the pet food. Many ingredients such as meat, poultry, and grains are considered safe and do not require pre-market approval. Other substances, such as sources of minerals, vitamins or other nutrients, flavorings, preservatives, or processing aids may be Generally Recognized As Safe for an intended use (21 CFR 582 and 584) or must have approval as food additives (21 CFR 570, 571 and 573). Colorings must have approvals for such use as specified in 21 CFR 70 and be listed in Parts 73, 74, or 81. For more information about pet foods and marketing a pet food, see FDA’s Regulation of Pet Food and Information on Marketing a Pet Food Product.
In addition to feeling good about contributing to the planet and its animals, these healthy animals also maintain greater nutrition within their tissues. Science has shown that grass-fed, grass finished beef contains higher levels of B-Vitamins, Vitamin A, Vitamin E, Conjugated Linoleic Acids (Omega 3 Fatty acids) and other antioxidants as compared to grain-fed beef.If you’re struggling to get your pet to consume a product within a reasonable amount of time after you put it down, we suggest putting it back in the fridge and trying again at the next meal.
What is pet products and services?
A variety of animal supplies and pet accessories are also sold in pet shops. The products sold include: food, treats, toys, collars, leashes, cat litter, cages and aquariums.
This is a primary reason why we don’t pasteurize our milk products. Fats are healthy, and necessary for optimal health, when they are raw. Heating also degrades certain nutrients, making the product less nutritious.
First up, an important fact – for every 1 gram of carbohydrates consumed, we all retain 3.5g of water. This water is either provided by the food or pulled from another area of the body, such as the muscle tissues, thus causing dehydration.
We source our milk from sustainable, regenerative farms in proximity to the packaging facility. Our herbs are organic and certified earth kosher, to prevent the destruction of the soil biome which helps sustain the earth.
a. We are using rotating cuts of muscle meat, organs, and fatty tissue. Unlike other pet food companies, our commitment to sourcing the best possible meat is greater than our commitment to a homogenous product. This built-in rotation not only allows us to maintain our sourcing standards, but also provides your pet with nutritional diversity that a uniform product would not.
So every one cup of this food contributes 4oz of water to your pet’s body. This food is hydrating and therefore your pet can drink less water without dehydrating. There are two ways you can measure out servings of Solutions products: by weight (mass) or volume (measurement cup or spoon). Food scales and measuring cups are inexpensive and are easily accessible in local stores.
Regenerative Agriculture is a holistic land management practice that produces healthy microbe-rich soil for healthy plants, animals, humans and the environment. Regenerative Farms work to be an active part of the solution through regenerative and sustainable practices based on science. They are soil doctors first and foundationally, potentiating everything above with more opportunity for health. Circumstantial evidence supports the hypothesis that with healthy soils comes phytochemical richness and this change to herbivore diets enhances biochemical richness of meat and dairy, which is linked with human and environmental health.
Bone broth is made by boiling bones to produce a mineral rich broth. While gelatin boils bone and gains the same mineral-richness as bone broth, its focus is on the protein matrix within skin, tendon, and ligament tissue. Gelatin is higher in amino acids, collagen, elastin, and other micronutrients than bone broth alone. There are several reasons to provide species appropriate diets to all animals. Like our pets, agricultural animals are happier and healthier when provided with clean, natural, species appropriate foods. While Solutions is providing products that will be served to dogs and cats, the health and happiness of the “ingredient” animals and their produced foods that go into these products are as important to us as the health and happiness of the pets who are served. Just as our pets deserve the opportunity to access sunshine, experience the respect and support of human relationships, and clean and healthy food, so do cows, chickens, and pigs. Vitamin C and collagen work in tandem to create elasticity in the skin and connective tissues. While dogs and cats have the ability to produce their own Vitamin C, it is often inadequate for the increased demands of aging or high activity. The fruits that Solutions Pet Products selected provide quality, non-synthetic Vitamin C to complement and enhance the benefits of the collagen in the Jiggles. However, if you leave fresh food products at room temperature or above for extended periods of time, the environment will be ideal for pathogen growth. This can cause illness. It’s important to treat your products with care, clean all surfaces with soap and hot water after use, and immediately discard anything that was not cared for properly. If you are immune compromised, this is even more important.
Every animal on earth requires salt to survive. Salt is found in sweat, tears, blood and every cell in the body. Salt functions in tandem with other minerals (Potassium in particular) to maintain proper osmotic pressure. Salt is only damaging when it is provided in excessively high amounts or in the presence of Potassium deficiency. Solutions foods are formulated to be complete and balanced and contain the proper, necessary amount of Salt as well as the proper amounts of other nutrients including Potassium.
Gelatin is made of protein molecules which are large and stringlike. When cooled, these molecules bond together and trap surrounding liquid, which forms a gel. This process can go back and forth in the process of thawing, refrigeration, freezing, and so on. Gelatin will naturally favor its liquid state over its gel state. Any opportunity that it has to bond and remain a liquid will be taken. However, the beneficial compounds remain. These compounds include amino acids, minerals, vitamins, collagen, elastin and other compounds which humans may not have even identified yet.In the case of grass fed beef, the allergenic proteins in grass would be broken down during the digestion process of the cattle eating the grass. These allergens would be broken down to their constituent vitamins, minerals, phytonutrients, amino acids and would never make it into the beef itself. Therefore, it would not contribute to your pets’ grass allergies.
What do pet owners buy most?
41% of dog owners spend between $500 and $1,999 a year on their dogs, and 8% spend more than $2,000. Dog owners spend the most on veterinary care ($367 per year), food ($339 per year) and grooming ($99 per year). Cat owners spend the most on food ($310 per year), veterinary care ($253 per year) and toys ($50 per year).
Inflammax – You can use this in tandem with any other Elemental Solutions blend. If you feel you need Immune as well, you may want to reach out to ask us about dual use.Our cartons are made from eco-friendly, recyclable materials. While they are healthier for our pets and planet, they are not completely leakproof. We recommend thawing in the sink, or in a container, to catch any leaks.b. We don’t use plastic. We are committed to sustainability and use paper packaging. Paper is permeable and allows oxygen to pass through it to some degree. Increased or decreased airflow can slightly alter the color of the product, while not damaging its integrity. Our foods come from regenerative pastures – green meadows dotted with wild flora and diverse animal life. As seasons and the natural surroundings change, so do the nutrients in the diets of the goats. As their diets change throughout the year, the ratios of fat to protein do too, resulting in a slightly different look to the milk.
What are pet products?
PET Products means all existing types of PET preforms and containers manufactured at the SLC Facility as of the Initial Public Offering Date, which types of PET preforms and containers are set forth, for the avoidance of doubt, on Schedule A hereto (the “Existing PET Products”).
c. The water can form an interesting frozen ice crystal formation on the surface. This is probably influenced by the surface of the casing. It may have to do with how the cellulose fibers lined up when the casing was formed. It created little fissures in the surface where the water was able to pool and freeze hence creating a pattern.Turmeric/Ginger – You can use this in tandem with any other Elemental Solutions blend. However, if you are using I Heart You you may want to reach out to talk to us about it.
What are technology trends in the pet industry?
Trends in the pet tech industry include wearables, smart gadgets, entry/security devices, pet surveillance, and remote pet interaction or enrichment tools. Health data collection has made wearables a main category within pet technology and the consumer IoT.
Solutions Pet Products adhere to AAFCO standards in the sense that we meticulously formulate each diet to meet or exceed the minimum nutritional requirements. We ensure this through careful analysis and lab testing. We do not add any synthetic isolate minerals or vitamins from any poorly regulated, heavy metal laden, foreign, or man-made source. And we don’t just assume that Solutions products are complete and balanced because of any similarities to other brands on the market. Also, despite a lack of requirement, we meticulously ensure that none of our nutrient levels are too high.“Consider social and economic outcomes for fishing communities, prevent overfishing, rebuild depleted stocks, minimize by-catch and interactions with protected species, and identify and conserve essential fish habitat.” Solutions is committed to ensuring that our sources align with these sustainable considerations and limitations.
After many, many hours of extensive research we chose not to HPP (High-Pressure Pasteurize) our products. There are many reasons why. Here are a few of them:Yes. You can thaw Jiggles quickly by placing the entire carton in a bowl of warm water. You may also partially thaw that carton, pour the thawed portion into a different container and keep in the fridge. You can put the remaining frozen portion back in the freezer. You may also thaw the entire product, pour it into ice cube trays, silicon molds, enrichment mats (etc) and refreeze it. We suggest not allowing the product to be kept at room temperature for more than 8 hours.
Our milk is also not homogenized. Homogenization gives you the impression that milk is always the same. Nature rarely makes anything consistent and milk is no exception. We want to share the experience of nature and that means there will sometimes be minor inconsistencies in the product. We take pathogens very seriously. We are well researched on which bacteria are pathogenic, how to avoid pathogens and how to maintain a clean facility. We study regulation and adhere closely to Federal Law and State Laws. We meticulously maintain food safety plans that are compliant with the newest FSMA requirements. And most of all, we do absolutely everything in our power to ensure that the products we provide to you and your family are safe and clean.Poorly handled raw ingredients can cause illness. Statistically speaking, the CDC website shows that your risks are greatest with grocery store meats, pasteurized soft cheeses (for humans), fruits, veggies, peanut butters, and dry kibble.

There are 2 reasons for this – higher moisture and lower carbohydrates. Let us show you the math of your pet’s need for water when eating Solutions vs eating a popular kibble:We find that 80/10/10 is nutritionally inadequate for long term feeding. Organ contains far more minerals and amino acids than muscle meat or bone. So 10% organ fed long term can result in nutritional deficiencies in pets. If we wanted to do 80/10/10 we would have to “muck up” our natural blends with synthetic minerals.
Fortunately, the lactose enzyme is found in higher concentrations in raw goat’s milk, making it more digestible and significantly reduces the risks of causing gastrointestinal problems in dogs.
The short answer is that nature knows way more than humans do! We trust that nature knows what she’s doing and that when we mess with her too much, things degrade in health and value. According to the Raw Milk Institute, unpasteurized, raw milk can be a source of probiotics. Goat milk naturally contains oligosaccharides, a healthy prebiotic. Since our milks are raw they are an excellent source of naturally occuring beneficial bacteria. Milk Thistle – You can use this in tandem with any other Elemental Solutions blend. However, if you are using Restore you shouldn’t need this product because Restore contains Milk Thistle.Immune – You can use this in tandem with any other Elemental Solutions blend. However, if you are using this blend you shouldn’t need to use Inflammax.
No. However, we recommended that if you want to add grains, make sure that they are organic and non-GMO. Also, we feel that the only grain with significant enough nutritional value to be worth using is Oats. Or you could use a pseudo-grain such as Amaranth, Quinoa or Millet. If the reason you are looking for information about grains is DCM, please see our blog posts:
Yes, it does. But before you go, we’d like to describe what this really means. Here are a handful of facts about AAFCO that will help you better navigate nutritional adequacy statements in the future:
This statement means that Jiggles are not intended to be used exclusively as a source of food for your pet. You may feed them at every meal, but they do not provide enough macronutrients to function as a sole source of calories for your pet for any extended period of time.
It is best to serve it cold or room temp, just don’t heat it. If you are concerned about pathogens, you may thaw the product in the refrigerator then add warm water prior to serving to bring it up to room temperature.
Cardboard is one of the materials with the least environmental impact. It is 100% recyclable and biodegradable, and it retains its quality and durability. As it is basically cellulose, it degrades completely within a maximum period of one year.
Plastic, on the other hand, is still made primarily from crude oil and natural gas, which is not only bad for the environment, it accelerates the depletion of a non-renewable resource.Additionally, multiple large, well-controlled studies, systematic reviews and meta-analyses of both observational studies and randomized controlled trials have concluded that the consumption of full-fat dairy is linked to lowered rates of cardiovascular disease, type-II diabetes, and obesity. A review from the Journal BMJ recently concluded that when health regulators encouraged low fat diets in the 1970’s there was actually no evidence available to support the suggestion.
There are times that it is, but not always. Most importantly, pasteurization (heating) of milk results in an oxidation of the fats within it. Studies on the use of oxidized fats in animals resulted in damage to brain cells, inflammation, and increased risk of diabetes and cardiovascular disease.(1) Oxidized fats have been linked to increased risk of pancreatitis and digestive upset.(2) Like your own food, fresh pet foods are equally susceptible to harboring pathogens if handled improperly. We suggest leaving products at room temperature for a time no greater than you would feel comfortable consuming the food yourself if it were yours. If you’re struggling to get your pet to consume a product within a reasonable amount of time after you put it down, we suggest putting it back in the fridge and trying again at the next meal. Gelatin itself does not have an odor. However, Solutions Pet Products believes in the benefits of keeping products as close to nature as possible. If we separated, refined, filtered and processed Jiggles enough we could extract only its gelatin components and have odor free products. That is not our goal! By leaving the ingredients as pure as possible they retain some odor from the remaining bone, marrow, skin and ligaments in the blend. While they are relatively low odor, they are not odor free.Raw Milk contains an enzyme called lactase which digests lactose. When milk is pasteurized/heated it destroys the lactase enzyme but leaves the lactose behind. Without lactase, the body receives no assistance in digesting the lactose in the milk.
The Jiggles do have a flavor that most dogs and cats absolutely love! At Solutions Pet Products, most of us drink our Jiggles products as well. When slightly warmed they are palatable enough for even humans to sip.According to the U.S. government’s National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) Fisheries, for seafood to be considered sustainable by law in the U.S., the fishery management plan is supposed to:
Chelsea Kent, co-owner of Solutions Pet Products, attends all AAFCO meetings and does a lot of research on regulation and food values. Due to her extensive knowledge of AAFCO, she is not a big supporter of it as a guideline for determining nutritional adequacy. For this reason, Solutions Pet Products diets are formulated “the hard way.” Rather than throwing in a toxic vitamin/mineral premix or just assuming that fresh = complete, Solutions is meticulously formulated to determine nutritional adequacy. Solutions diets meet and exceed AAFCO nutritional requirements but we use nature to do it, not dangerous chemicals and fillers. We recognize that plastic is also recyclable but we also know that very little plastic actually gets recycled due to lack of effort, lack of access, lack of funding, etc.
Arnold Ehret once said “Disease is merely Nature’s effort to start performing the process of healing – the elimination of wastes and disease matters that clog up your tissue system.” When the body decreases its daily toxic burden (by bettering the diet and decreasing environmental toxins) it often provokes a deep cleaning to empty out anything that has been suppressed or otherwise “settled” in the body. This purge of toxins is an indication that the body is healthy enough to regain a balance; this is called a Healing Crisis or “detox.” The most common symptoms of a healing crisis include diarrhea, vomiting, nasal discharge, pneumonia, pustules or a rash, and excessive thirst and urination, hair loss, and more. For more information, see this article: Healing Crisis
NOTE: regardless of which method you choose, you may want to provide an herbal supplement to prevent diarrhea just because you don’t want to deal with it (we don’t blame you – we feel the same). In this case, you can safely give Elemental Solutions The Regulator, as instructed on the package, for up to 10 days so you can be sure that you’ll both sleep through the night and have an easier transition.
Jell-O is a brand name sugar based product which contains gelatin, flavorings, artificial sweeteners as well as food colorings and preservatives which have been linked to cancer in human and animal studies. Jell-O is designed to be a dessert for humans and could potentially be harmful to dogs and cats. Jiggles are designed for dogs and cats. Jiggles are free of sugars, flavor enhancers, coloring agents, preservatives and other dangerous and/or artificial ingredients.
We wanted Solutions DOGh to stay soft, pliable and fresh. Plastic prevents air from flowing through the product and drying it out. Even after opening, the packaging allows you to use only what you need while keeping the rest soft and fresh.
If handled appropriately, yes. Pathogens grow when you handle products improperly (did you know that pathogens are more common in your children’s breakfast cereal, grocery store meats and cheeses, fruits and veggies than in raw pet foods?)
Last, Goat Milk molecules are 5x smaller than Cow Milk molecules, making them much more easily absorbable and less irritating to sensitive stomachs than Cow’s Milk.A pet shop or pet store is a retail business which sells animals and pet care resources to the public. A variety of animal supplies and pet accessories are also sold in pet shops. The products sold include: food, treats, toys, collars, leashes, cat litter, cages and aquariums.
Many pet stores also offer retail products online. Citing convenience as the key motivational factor for purchasing from online pet stores, the number of United States households that shopped online for pet care products in 2018 was 13 million. Other stated advantages for online shopping include competitive pricing and good value due to free shipping offers. As of 2017, North America has the largest online pet care market of any other region. In the United States, more than 1/3 of all purchases from online pet stores were made at PetSmart with the most popular item purchased being dry dog food. In 2017, the online sales of pet care products grew by about 3.4 billion dollars, while traditional brick-and-mortar stores reported only about 317 million dollars in sales growth.
In the United Kingdom, pet stores are prohibited from selling puppies and kittens less than six months old. The ban was announced in 2018 following public pressure to improve animal breeding standards. As of 2018, millennials are the biggest pet-owning generation. Seventy-seven percent report that they prefer to purchase pet products like toys, accessories, and food online, but favor in-store shopping for treats, bedding and clothing. In 20 states and Washington, D.C., a license is required before being able to manage a pet store. There are 16 states that have laws which mandate veterinary care in pet stores. In some states and cities – such as California and Atlanta – the sale of common pets such as dogs, cats, and rabbits, is prohibited except for those from animal shelters, in an attempt to curb poor standards of animal breeding.
Pet shops may also offer both hygienic care (such as pet cleaning) and aesthetic services (such as cat and dog grooming). Some pet stores also provide tips on training and behaviour, as well as advice on pet nutrition. Some pet stores provide engraving services for pet tags, which have the owner’s contact information in case the pet gets lost.
In 2004, according to the American Pet Products Manufacturers Association, in the pet industry, live animal sales reached approximately $1.6 billion. In the United States, pet sales make up only 6% of the market, with most sales comprising accessories and merchandise. In a 2003 survey, 38% of U.S. pet shops claimed that they did not sell any live animals. The largest pet store in the world is located in Duisburg, Germany. Zoo Zajac is located in a 130,000 square-foot warehouse and houses more than 250,000 animals from 3,000 different species. The store has become a tourist attraction, with visitors interacting with it like a zoo. A positive side-effect in the economy due to the pet industry can be found in the number of visits to a healthcare agency, like a doctor. In 1998, in the United States, non-institutionalised seniors experienced 19% less encounters with healthcare instances. In 2007, in Australia, pet owners made 15% fewer visits to the doctor compared to non-pet owners. The total health expenditure savings in 2013 due to pet ownership have been estimated to account for 11% for the Australian healthcare and 24% for the German healthcare. In the UK the healthcare expenditure savings in 2013 due to the existence of companion animals are estimated to have been around £2.45 billion, £47 million per week. According to the actual sales within the U.S. market in 2018 of APPA, $30.32 billion was spent on food out of $72.56 billion. on estimated 2019 sales within the U.S. market, food is estimated to increase to $31.68 billion in the U.S. The world’s largest pet food markets are in the United States, France, Japan, and Germany, accounting for over half of the sales in pet food. North America is the largest geographical segment of the market studied and accounted for a share of around 39.2% of the overall market. The pet food market is segmented by animal type, product type, ingredient type, sales channel, pricing type, and geography. The shift in pet ‘ownership’ to ‘parenting’ has been a very crucial and defining trend in the pet food market, more so in the developed countries.
The most common found pet in the U.S., according to the 2019-2020 APPA National Pet Owners Survey, was the dog with 63.4 million of U.S. households owning at least as a pet. After that comes the cat with 42.7 million households keeping one. The third largest owned
pet in the U.S. is the freshwater fish with 11.5 million households owning at least one fish. After that comes the bird (5.7 million households), small rodents (5.4 million households), reptiles (4.5 million households), and last saltwater fish and horses with 3.2 million households owning one.
The pet industry (sometimes known as petconomy) is the market industry associated with companion animals. It includes things that are associated with the production, consumption and cultural activities linked to the market. Next to nutrition, toys and animal healthcare, new services and products like taxis, kindergartens, hotels, IT appliances, broadcasting, theme parks and funeral services are appearing on the market.
In the United States alone between 2017 and 2018 there was an estimate of 393 million pets, making for a total pet expenditure of $72.56 billion. In Europe the total amount of companion animals in 2018 was estimated to be over 158 million pets. The total pet expenditures can be divided into nutrition, supplies/medicines, veterinarian care, live animal purchases and other services.
The global animal healthcare market size in 2018 was estimated at $43.55 billion with a Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) of 5.6% between 2017 and 2025. The Global Animal Health Market is estimated to reach 70.01 billion by 2026. A significant part of that is the Companion Healthcare Market estimated to be as large as $15.3 billion in 2019 and is expected to rise to 20.7 billion by 2024, with a CAGR of 6.26%. This estimated increase is mainly bound to happen due to government initiatives trying to encourage the growth of veterinary products and treatments. The boost of the market however has to do with an increase in the adoption of companion animals. The Companion Animal Healthcare Market is driven by zoonotic and foodborne diseases among companion animals, increasing companion animal ownership, healthcare concerns of pets and a rising concern for improved nutrition. A big part of the Companion Animal Healthcare Market is the investment of insurances. The Pet Insurance market is estimated to account for $10 billion by 2025. The insurance could include a multi-pet insurance plan so that multiple pet policies are covered in a single plan. An attribution to the insurance in some instances could also cover pet cremation and situations where the pet gets lost.
The basic annual expenditures for keeping and maintaining a pet dog in U.S. is $1,381. For keeping a cat in the U.S. the costs come to $908 per year.
Pet insurance is another area where technology is making a significant impact. This was once a relatively unknown insurance product, but its growth more than doubled between 2018 and 2021. This growth is partly due to the use of technology to streamline the insurance process and make it more accessible to pet owners.
The field of pet technology is continuously evolving, and pet surveillance cameras represent a new and developing category within it. Pet owners can use these cameras to monitor a pet’s behavior and activity when the owner is not home. This is an excellent way to ensure the pet is safe and secure while also providing peace of mind for the owner.
Looking across the pet ownership and care lifecycle, Halo’s automatic behavioral corrections and instant commands provide an efficient training aid for pets. This feature allows pet owners to correct their dog’s behavior or teach new commands using a vibration or tone correction. We can be sure of two things: this industry will continue to grow and evolve and will only become more complex. Because of the accelerating pace of digital transformation, we will surely see many more exciting developments in IoT software development, IoT Development, and IoT application development. If you want to enter this rapidly growing sector, consider Softeq as a partner to help bring your complex and demanding IoT and pet tech projects to life.
The Halo Collar’s offline mode allows the collar to continue functioning even when disconnected from a network, making it ideal for use in areas with limited or intermittent network coverage. By using Azure for the device’s back end, Softeq ensured that the device would be highly scalable and able to handle large amounts of data at very high performance. The over-the-air (OTA) firmware update feature ensures the device can access the latest features and security updates.
As of 2022, 70% of U.S. households (90.5 million homes) own pets. Forecasts suggest total pet care spending will grow from $280 billion in 2022 to nearly $550 billion by 2032, an impressive annual growth rate. Pet owners invest significant resources in enhancing their pets’ physical and emotional health through spending on food, toys, grooming supplies, insurance, and other forms of care. Among the current pet-owning population, millennials make up the largest segment (32%), followed by baby boomers (27%) and trailed by Gen X (24%). Millennials also allocate more discretionary funds to pet food, treats, and general care than other age groups. However, spending on pets is now increasingly inelastic across all age groups.
Some significant challenges in developing a smart dog collar are ensuring that the device is secure, durable, comfortable, shockproof, waterproof, and harmless to the dog. A few benefits of owning a smart dog collar like Halo are tracking a pet’s position in real-time, creating virtual fences, and providing automatic behavioral corrections and instant commands even while away from home.
Trends in the pet tech industry include wearables, smart gadgets, entry/security devices, pet surveillance, and remote pet interaction or enrichment tools. Health data collection has made wearables a main category within pet technology and the consumer IoT. The fastest-growing segment (by revenue) of the pet tech wearables market is in devices that support Global Positioning System (GPS) features. Many pet owners want to keep a close watch on their pet’s whereabouts or track and trace them if they wander off.
Creating an integrated pet tech IoT device like the Halo Collar requires an interdisciplinary team with expertise in areas such as IoT software development, firmware development, cloud computing, mobile app development, electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and industrial design. This task’s interdisciplinary and full-stack nature made it extremely challenging and well-suited to Softeq’s particular experience and expertise. As a full-stack technology company, Softeq has been built from the ground up to specialize in new product development and R&D with challenges spanning numerous disciplines and industries. Even more, Softeq can deliver this innovation expertise on a global scale, leveraging existing partnerships with component makers. In a potentially more light-hearted example of the wearables trend, the GoPro Fetch harness lets pet owners attach a GoPro camera to their dogs. This setup allows pet owners to capture videos from their pets’ perspective, allowing them to glimpse their pets’ world and see things from their viewpoint.
The pet tech industry’s growth has accelerated in recent years because of innovations and new technologies such as high-speed wireless connectivity, artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and the Internet of Things (IoT). According to Global Market Insights, the global pet tech market size was $5 billion in 2022. Experts now predict expansion of as much as 15% Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) from 2023 to 2032. Very plainly, the pet tech industry is thriving, letting pet owners access many new pet tech solutions to better monitor and care for animal companions.
The convenience and benefits of smart dog collars like Halo make them a popular pet tech solution for pet owners. Their real-time GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, and LTE tracking help owners locate their pets quickly if they wander off. Spatially-aware geofencing features also let pet owners create virtual fences to prevent pets from leaving a designated area. From the proverbial bird’s-eye view, growth in the pet tech industry is accelerating and exhibiting many exciting trends to watch closely. Wearables and smart gadgets are becoming increasingly popular, allowing pet owners to monitor their pets’ health and behavior. Because of widespread high-speed 4G, 5G, and wi-fi connectivity, pet owners can also use smart devices for the home to improve a pet’s well-being, while pet surveillance cameras and location monitoring wearables provide extra layers of security.
Moreover, successfully developing such a device requires specialized expertise in various areas, such as IoT software development, firmware development, cloud computing, and mobile app development. Creating the device’s physical components also requires specialized electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, and industrial design knowledge. For a closer look at the depth and breadth of innovation in this space, consider one product that exemplifies several of these pet tech trends – the smart dog collar. Creating a smart dog collar solution is particularly challenging because of competing technological, aesthetic, and manufacturing constraints. However, Softeq achieved all this and more when it helped PAWS, LLC create its Halo Collar. A device like Halo must be robust, secure, and scalable while incorporating various technologies such as GPS, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, mobile apps, and LTE. Moreover, it must be user-friendly, providing pet owners with a seamless, cost-effective experience. Pet owners can also utilize smart home devices to monitor and enhance their pets’ well-being. The smart pet feeder is the most widely-known item in this segment. At the opposite end of the scale, smart litter boxes can remove waste automatically. Smart toys can also provide entertainment for pets even when alone. Pet owners can also use smart pet doors to identify pets through their implanted microchips, allowing them to come and go freely. Smart grooming brushes for cats are another example of how technology can improve a pet’s well-being.Whether cats or dogs make better companions has long been a bone of contention among many pet parents. Popularity certainly has nothing to do with how much a pet is loved by its human family. But in terms of ownership, more households include dogs than cats.
